Accepted Answer

No.  Do not.: Clorox is a cleaning product for the house and has bleach, making it dangerous.  Please do not do it.  Please see my comment for good products to fight gum disease.  Again, please do not use clorox.

disinfecting surface in my car with clorox wipes, i accidentally wiped my upper lip when i sneezed with the wipe. no soap&water nearby. since this happened 12 days ago lip has been red & swollen. could wipes be cause?

: You likely just had a chemical burn or allergic reaction to the material in the wipe. That tissue is quite sensitive and easy to injure. Over time it should heal from the inside out &amp; you may experience some shedding of superficial skin layers in that site.

i have herpes sore on my lip if i touched a surface after touching my sore, r disinfectant wipes (clorox brand) enough to clean the surface/kill virus?

Yes: As the surface dries the virus will die also.

Running and saliva: This sounds like dehydration.  Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day every day.

Short healing time: Keep mouth scrupulously clean (floss daily, brush 2x/day for 2 fulminates by the clock.  Dab Orajel or Orabase-B onto sore spot with q-tip. Take Ibuprofen as per package directions.   If still a problem in a week, see your Dentist.

Salt Water: Helps infections drain and makes the area feel better.

can i use mouthwash 1 week post-op gum graft? have been only using salt water rinse but mouth feels yucky. if so, can you please recommend one for breath while my gums fully heal?

: No do not use OTC mouthwash yet!  wait until your doctor tells you it is alright to return. However you should be able to brush and use paste around the rest of your mouth at this stage.  But ask your doctor!

my family member has hsv-1, however, has not had a cold sore in a year. i accidentally dropped his freshly rinsed toothbrush and some of the water landed on my lip. i scrubbed and washed my mouth afterward, but am i still at risk for hsv-1??

Infection: Probably an abscess, an infection, but there are other possible reasons.  Pills will not cure an infected tooth . You actually need hands-on dental care.  Please don't delay.  See a Dentist quickly, before the spreading infection damages other organ systems.

does gargling with milk of magnesia help a tongue sore? is it safe? how would i do that? how much do i mix with water and how often each day? how long before improvement?

: Most of these sores are caused by viruses which heal on their own eventually, but Maalox (liquid antacid ) either applied with a Qtip or rinsed in mouth can help pain, or applying a small amount of honey (great for healing wounds) or a warm tea bag (the tannic acid helps), or topical benzocaine
