is it possible to have an asthma attack only in the left lung? if not what could be the reason for wheezing and coughing up phlegm in 1 lung? thanks

You need a CXR: Whenever i hear wheezing in one lung i get a chest x ray to rule out pneumonia. Usually it's positive. *.

One at a time please: Yes, it's possible to have normal o2 sats during a mild asthma attack.  The o2 sats during an anaphylactic reaction will get worse as the reaction progresses, unless it's stopped by appropriate medical care.  Wheezing with normal o2 sats happens when for many reasons:  could be mild bronchiolitis/bronchitis, mild asthma, a foreign body in the airway, could be something else mistaken for wheezing.

Narrowing of airways: Asthma is caused by spasm in the small airways in the lungs the wheezing is like a whistling sound that occurs when you try to push air through an area of spasm that is too tight to allow normal flow.  Think of it like when you whistle, you force air past an obstructed opening and creat turbulance that maks the sound. Whistles are not a vocal cord sound.

Yes: But you will need to consult your doctor to make sure that asthma is the cause since there are many other causes for  shortness of breath.

See your allergist: The dream isn't causing you to have an asthma attack - the fact that your asthma is flaring is what is causing you to dream about your asthma. Waking from sleep wheezing is a sign of uncontrolled asthma - you need to see your allergist to have your treatment plan adjusted to bring your asthma under good control.

Asthma attack: I would recommend an emergency type facility... Either hospital er or free -standing emergency center/clinic where you can be monitored more closely as your treated.

Could be asthma: Kids wheeze for a lot of reasons in childhood &amp; 1/3-1/2 may grow out of their wheezing by age 5. However, true asthma can persist through life with a variable intensity from very mild to major. If you are having such events you should meet with your doc for a review &amp; testing. An asthma action plan that addresses how to manage your events &amp; monitor improvement is needed.

Yes and no: There are those with mild asthma (cough variant) that can have coughing spells that respond to asthma rescue inhalers.These patients rarely but can wheeze. A chronic night  cough may be their main symptom. I wouldn&#x27;t call this an asthma attack, although one might start this way.This level of symptoms cannot be considered it&#x27;s equal.Most with this variant never have a significant attack.

i've been told that cs gas can cause an asthma attack to somebody with mild asthma. how severe would this attack be? would it be full blown needing a hospital or just wheezing and shortness of breath? i've gotten a 76% on my asthma test.

Peak flow: of 76% is good , so long you have no symptoms like shortness of breath or cough,  CS gas or any irritant can stimulate an asthma attack, just try to avoid exposure, take your controller and rescue medicines as prescribed

i have asthma and when i get attacks the only symptoms i have are coughing, difficulty breathing and chest tightenss. no wheezing and i don't lose oxygen. albuteral works to stop them. can this still be asthma even though i don't lose oxygen or wheez?
