Food Poisoning: Vomiting is the body's response to food poisoning as it attempts to rid itself of the toxin or bacteria. I wouldn't suggest attempting medication at this time. Even something mild like Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Mylanta is likely to induce more vomiting at this time. Hydration is key so encouraging  water in sips as tolerated may be most helpful at this time.

Viral gastroenteritis can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.  Symptoms can persist even after the viral infection has cleared due to irritation of the intestinal tract.  In some cases, diarrhea can persist for weeks, although this is not usually the case.  Normally the nausea and vomiting only last a few days at most.

If : If you want to be safe wait one to two weeks after her symptoms have resolved in order to reduce transmission. The responsible virus can be shed after the symptoms have subsided therefore waiting one to two weeks should suffice.

Sounds like it: You're likely correct.  For a stomach virus, it's important to maintain hydration (water, sports drinks) and eat a very bland diet as tolerated. Look up the "BRAT" diet. Certainly avoid dairy.  As long as there's no fever, it's ok to use loperamide (Imodium) to suppress symptoms. Wash hands frequently and don't share food/glasses etc. See a doc if dehydration or 3 days without improvement.

Yes to question: To answer your question MBanks, you  can have fever with food poisoning. Lettuce has been a culprit in several food poisoning outbreaks from such bacteria as E. coli and Salmonella for example.  You would also have diarrhea with these.

If you develop a fever over 101.5 F, have blood in your vomit or bloody diarrhea, or have been vomiting for more than 2 days, you need to see a physician.

This will cause a rise in the blood glucose, even if the child hasn't been eating. It is totally normal and expected. She is not diabetic and nothing to worry about.
