Yes: The vaccine for chickenpox has a small incidence of zoster, although studies have so far shown the frequency is less than that for people who had wild chickenpox.

: Until the very last blister has dried out shingles remains transmissable. This usually takes about two weeks.

: Shingles is not passed from one to another like a sore throat. The germ causes chickenpox, and someone exposed to the debris from the sores could get chickenpox if they never had it. It is not passed in the air like chickenpox and once the wounds have dried out &amp; healed there is no further risk. Only a small percentage of those vaccinated against chickenpox can ever get it in any setting.

Bf okay: If the Bf had chicken pox vaccination, he should be okay and not be susceptible to the virus. To be sure you Bf may get a blood test to see if he has antibodies to chicken pox virus.

Unlikely an issue: A properly vaccinated kid would have about a 5 % risk of ever getting varicella.Ophthalmic shingles is only contagious through the debris from the lesions, not though droplets like regular chickenpox. If the vaccinated child did not have direct contact with the lesions or debris there would be no risk of infection.

is it possible for someone with opthamalic shingles transfer chicken pox to a vaccinated child?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely to happen: There are a few vaccinated kids who remain less than fully protected, especially if they have not completed the two shot series. However, shingles is not as contagious as the wild chickenpox, it has no airborne phase. To be exposed the child would have to have direct contact with the material from the caretakers wounds. Simple hygienic care/handwashing/etc will avoid passing it on.
