Yes: Shingles can cause chicken pox when in contact with someone who was not had the disease
I would recommend you see your health care provider and discuss getting vaccinated very soon

I have been exposed to shingles at work. How at risk is my husband who has never had chicken pox?

Not much: I can't see any way you could carry home infected material from the person with shingles & pass it to your spouse. Your spouse may want to have his blood checked for immunity to chickenpox. It tends to have some severe complications in adults that are uncommon to children. Many adults had a mild case in childhood that was never picked up or called something else. A vaccine would be smart if not.

A 60-year-old female asked:
I've never had chicken pox. I'm 60 years old. Should I get a shot for shingles

Shingles shot: Yes. Although the vaccine is only 50% effective, it is a wise choice because the effects of shingles can be devastating leaving prolonged and difficult to manage nerve pain (neuritis). It's a good health gamble to take. Get the shot.

Shingles chickenpox: Some people get what is called subclinical chickenpox with very few or no blisters appearing on the skin, but they still had the infection. This infection can recur as shingles later on.

I have just been told I have shingles and i look after my garanddaughters who have never had chicken pox, are they at risk?

Maybe: If the shingles is on a covered part of your body they are probably not at risk. If it is on your face you should limit your contact with them. Their pediatrician should be spoken to.

Do people get shingles if they've never had chicken pox?

No: Shingles is a 'rebirth' of the chicken pox virus. Your may have had a mild case of chicken pox and did not know it. You can have a blood test to have your antibody levels checked.

About 90% of adults tested because they don't recall having Cpx have positive tests showing prior infection.
