hello, i was diagnosed with pid, but negative for std's. how did i get it?

Some PID is non-STD: Most PID is due to gonorrhea and chlamydia, but neither can be found in 20-40% of PID cases. Sometimes the test just missed it. Others might be caused by unknown STD germs. And some cases have nothing to do with STD. Also, previous PID predisposes to new cases, even if the first caused no symptoms. Checking sex partners sometimes turns up STD missed in the PID patient herself. Discuss w/ your doc.

Usually is: Pid is usually from a std. The cultures will help determine the source. Your boy friend should be tested as well.

PID tricky: Pelvic inflammatory disease can be caused by a number of different infections, many of which are sexually transmitted.  Depending on which infection, and the individual female body, PID can be asymptomatic (the woman does not know she has it) to life-threatening, and may become known hours to years after contracting the infection.  I agree with getting an STD check and using condoms.

Sometimes: There are cases of pid that are caused by bacteria that are not sexually transmitted. Tuberculosis is one example. The majority are caused by gonorrhea and chlamydia.

i had a std for 10 months and pid can i still get pregnant? i had them treated right after i found out ! my doctor said i was fine when i got a peps.

Some risks...: Pid (pelvic inflammatory disease) carries with it a higher risk of infertility as well as a higher risk of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. But that certainly does not mean that you won't be able to get pregnant and have a healthy baby. Start now by taking the best care of yourself that you possibly can. i went to the doctors 2 weeks ago and got std check up and yesterday my doc told me i have chlamydia. i dont know how long i had it maybe a month. should i get tested for pid? i want kids in the futur

No further tests: The tests for PID are essentially the same as testing for gonorrhea/chlamydia. If you are positive make sure you AND your partner are treated. Avoid intercourse to prevent re-transmission until both have a negative chlamydia test.

got treated for non-std bacterial infection in vagina. how did the bacteria get inside and how to prevent this from happening in the future? does sex also cause it? trying to avoid pid. thank you in advance doctors. much appreciated?

Bacteria live there: The vagina is host to a large number of bacteria normally and the vaginal pH(acidity/alkalinity scale) keeps the "good" bacteria comfortable at home and the "bad" bacteria from overwhelming the 'house" Frequent intercourse, douching, irritating fragrant  soaps,  &amp; STD's all can alter the vaginal environment creating bacterial infections.

You DID have an STD: Simple answer, you did have an std and still do.  Likely gonorrhea and/or chlamydia.  For both infections, it's not uncommon to be infected, but not have obvious symptoms.  That is why testing often is so important!

PID can be caused: From bacteria in the vagina, say, if you do a high pressure douche.  You may get a clinical diagnosis of pid without infection though.  We are quick to call pelvic pain pid to treat it and avoid problems from pid.  You may, say, have another issue, went to the er, got treated for pid, now think you had an infection when it was something different.  See your ob/gyn, especially if pain resumes gd luc.

Semantics: STD's can be transmitted via vaginal. oral, and/or anal sex.  The term PID is a generic term for pelvic STD's.  STD's can be acquired through anal sex.
