Oral Thrush: Caused by yeast called candida or monilia, common in neonates from contact in birth canal. Lesions are white plaques covering oral, pharyngeal mucosa, tongue, inner lips and cheeks. When removed rubbing, raw beefy mucosa with pinpoint bleeding seen. Discomfort may cause feeding problem in infants. Other causes: myelo-suppressive therapy, immunodeficiency, endocrine diseases, antibiotic use, etc.

Absolutely!: Oral thrush is simply a yeast infection in your mouth. This normally doesn't happen because cells in our immune system prevent the yeast from growing. However, chemotherapy harms those cells, allowing yeast to grow easily. Oral thrush is easy to treat with medicated mouth rinses. When your immune system fully recovers, it will stop occurring.

Can happen: It depends on underlying medical conditions and medications. For  example, some inhaled steroids for asthma or COPD can lead to oral thrush.  Some diseases of the immune system can also lead to thrush, especially when being treated.

Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis can be a sign of an immune disorder of t cells as well as a rare genetic autoimmune syndrome known as autoimmune polyendocrinopathy syndrome type 1 (aps-1). Quite unusual: Have you been on steroids?  Have you been on antibiotics?  Even then, thrush would be unusual in a teenager with an normal immune system.  Get checked and tested for HIV disease in addition to assessment of general immune function.

Coated tongue?: Oral yeast infection (thrush) is not a likely consequence of a common cold, even a severe one. If you have a white coated tongue, it probably isn't thrush. Coated tongue is different and extremely common with almost any medical problem, including colds, changes in nutrition, and other causes. Not a worry; it will clear up on its own. But see your doctor if you remain concerned.

Candida colonisation: He has a fungal ( candida a.) colonization of the genital area and you have probably low immune system, or taking/inhaling steroids.
