sciatic type pain from left lower back into buttock and down leg.  sometimes foot tingles.  can get comfortable laying or sitting but hurts a lot to walk.  what are the chances this is result of a cancer.  i am terrified snd it's giving me anxiety?

: Sciatica is virtually never caused by cancer, so, your concerns are unwarranted.  But behooves you to obtain imaging to assess the significance of your symptoms.  Conservative physical therapy may well be the solution to your problems.

Possibly: Hard to know unless you get a physical exam by a physician.  Most soft tissue masses are benign (not cancerous)- i.e. Lipomas, cysts, etc.. But there are cancerous masses that can occur anywhere.  See your physician.

Unlikely: Prostate biopsy secondary to elevated psa is usually what leads to the diagnosis. Prostate nodule on digital rectal exam (dre) is another method. Unless locally advanced prostate cancer generally is without symptoms. Bone pain related to prostate cancer can occur due to advanced metastatic disease; however, that is not the usual initial presentation.

extandi for prostate cancer: cancer has spread to my husbands lower back. will extandi it be able to stop further spreading?

Hopefully: This antiandrogen medication in certain cases of metastatic prostate cancer can prevent further spread and/or reduced  new  metastatic involvement  and slow the growth of prostate cancer. The oncologist knows much more about this medication than we other MDs do and can advise you best.

Accepted Answer

It depends on the si: Any lumps that are pailess and growing in size over a period of 1 or 2 months require examination by a physician to check for cancer. I would not be concerned unless it has a size over a quarter(one inch or more)and it has been present more than 4-6 weeks and appears to be getting bigger.

Uncommon: Back pain due to muscle/ligament strain is FAR more common than pain due to cancer.  One should have a primary doctor and get at least annual checkups, get appropriate screening tests and to discuss concerns such as these so that the physician can perform a comprehensive history and exam, hopefully, to provide further reassurance with more information.

Sciatica: Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body. Risk factors for Sciatica include Obesity, Prolonged sitting, Diabetes. Treatment includes Anti-inflammatories, Stretches, Exercise, Weight loss, Good posture, Steroid injections.

i have been neck and lower back xrays because of pain and some bloodtests.  c3c4c5 disc narrowing and l4 l5s1.  we also did some tumor marker as my family has a history with cancer and s100b came up h n 0.000 and 0.105 mine is 0.110?

Diagnostic tests :  To answer that it should be understood that test results are taken into account with the things the patients, says, the examination, lab tests, and all other diagnostic tests.  Your x-rays results are very common in a good portion of people without neck or back pain. S100B is not a specific test. Your individual concerns can only be answered by a doctor who sees you and has the entire picture.

Possibly: Low back pain might be caused by testicular cancer in abdominal or pelvic lymph nodes, pelvic or lower abdomen back muscles, low lumbar vertebrae or if it were pushing on the nerves exiting the spine in the low back. The best was to evaluate this would be imaging of the low back, abdomen and pelvis with either ct scan or MRI scan or both.

are lower back pain and testicular cancer related?

Accepted Answer

Usually not: Testcular cancer may spread to the lymph nodes of the back but this is seldom painful. It seldom metastasizes to the bone. Your question is important and should be moot -- if there's a testicular mass it needs to be investigated, if a person has been treated for testicular cancer, low back pain isn't the normal way a recurrence presents.
