Accepted Answer

No: Hernias occur where a defect develops in the boundaries of a hollow body cavity.  Since the neck is not a hollow cavity, there are no potential hernias.

is it possible to get a hernia in the shoulder muscles right beside/below the neck?

Accepted Answer

Muscle: Myofascial defect is possible, but usually more common in the lower extremities.

4 months ago dx with hiatal hernia, gastritis, gerd. i get heartburn occasionally, but for 6 months now i experience pain in right side of neck that can radiate to the right arm and wrist. my gastro md doubts gerd as cause. is this gastrointestinal?

: This sounds like cervical disc disease.  Would consider seeing a neurologist if it continues.

Yes a diverticulum: Hernia is an abnormal protrusion of viscus, then then  you consider pharyngeal diverticulum ( zanker's ) as hernia , although is not called as one.

clear throat often, especially with bra on, 3 docs said acid reflux..been scoped, should i get a 3rd opinion? have a hiatal hernia also.

Reflux: If you look at the picture you will see that the swallowing tube is above the diaphragm and the stomach is below. The stomach is full of acid to digest food and is lined with mucous to protect it from the acid.  The esophagus has no acid or protection.  A hiatal hernia is part of the stomach above diaphragm which leaks acid into the esophagus. Sounds like your problem.   ie acid reflux.

female in late 50s had abdominal surgery4a2nd hernia.muscles were also pulled to reattach 4weak abdominal muscles.put on epidural. 3weeks later feet still get cold every night. no prior major health issues. just-low calcium,thyroid,no.gallbladder?

Unclear: This is really unclear. Were the feet feeling cold before the surgery at any time? That is probably from your hypothyroidism if it is hypo. It's unlikely your aorta was dissected.

does acid reflux cause a clogged throat? i have a hiatal hernia and i get severe reflux at night where my throat feels clogged and makes me feel really nauseous? hard to swallow at time as well?

: It will not cause clogging but irritation from reflux can give you that feeling. stop eating late at night take your prescribed meds for acidity, sleep with the bed with raised head end. If this does not help pl see your GI MD. Hope you feel better.

last 6 months i been having a feeling food is stuck in my throat it's a constent feeling sometimes pain in the center of my sternum 10 years ago i had an endo done i have hiatal hernia i get a lot of acid coming up i take prilosec and no improvements?

Reevaluation: May be complications from reflux or could be new problem. Need reevaluation by GI specialist probably requiring repeat endoscopy and possibly swallowing studies at the least. Do not delay as the longer these symptoms persist the worse things may get and require more invasive treatment.

does acid reflux cause thick saliva and clogged throat feeling. i get this at night as i have a hiatal hernia and esophagitis, makes it hard to breathe?

: It can. Consider sleeping with your upper torso raised and avoid any caffeine for 6 hours before you lay down. Also do not lay down for a couple hours after a meal.

severe nausea last 3 days on and off. i have a hiatal hernia, esophagitis and ibs. i feel fine until i eat or drink something. its just constant nausea in my throat. i dont know how to get rid of it. would it be caused by any of those conditions?

Accepted Answer

: Nausea is rarely the lone symptoms of GERD and esophagitis. Nausea may be associated with IBS if you have severe constipation. If you are sexually active, pregnancy needs to be ruled out with a urine pregnancy test. Nausea could be the side effect of some common medications so I wonder if you are taking any new medication before that.
