Good question!: Parathyroid hormone (pth_ causes two main effects - a decrease in phosphorous in the blood, and an increase in calcium.  If a body makes too much PTH (constant, high levels) it will leach the calcium from the bones to keep the blood levels up.  Injections, however, are intermittent, lower concentrations that can stimulate bone strengthening by absorbing the calcium in the bood.

Listen to your body: Vit d3 is deficient, parathyroid is excessive and bone density is decreased and calcium is on the  high side of normal. Phosphate intake and blood levels may be increased causing parathyroid levels to be high. Magnesium may also be deficient. Re-evaluate life style. Eat 6 healthy meals with 6 servings of fresh green vegetables, get sufficient vit d3 from sun or supplements, avoid colas.

PTH binding to the PTH receptor (cAMP mechanism) activates calcium transporters in the distal tubule so the calcium is recovered.

With most hormone deficiencies, we give back the missing hormone (eg. Diabetes, insulin). But PTH is not available as a treatment. So hypopara is treated with vit d, ca, and other meds.  It is hard to regulate, and you need a doc experienced with this.

Not necessarily: Primary hyperparathyroidism and malignancy are the most common causes of increase serum calcium , accounting for more than 90 percent of cases. There are ways to differentiate one to the other ( check intact pth, PTH related peptide etc) . You should see your doctor and have further blood work-up and discussion in management of the problem.
