Anti-inflammatory: Nasonex (mometasone) is a corticosteroid nasal spray that reduces inflammation of the mucous membranes of the nose and sinuses.  Reducing the inflammation reduces the amount of mucous produced resulting in less post nasal drip (and less "runny nose.").

have clear nasal drainage with asthma. dr gave steriod shot in hip with nasonex (mometasone). nebulizer treatment made lung function better but i keep having cough?

See allergist: If you require systemic steroid to control your asthma and nasal symptoms, it is time to consult an allergist. There are many causes for coughing-uncontrolled asthma, post-nasal drips, sinusitis are just a few of the causes.

Maybe: "postnasal drip" can be due to many causes. If nasal allergy and inflammation is what's causing your feeling of drip then Nasonex (mometasone) can help. In my experience irritation of the throat caused by what patients eat and drink or by unrecognized reflux are far more common causes of feeling "post nasal drip." if you have reflux or drink a lot of soda, tea or coffee you should stop.

You : You can use either a steroid nasal spray such as Nasonex (mometasone) or Flonase or an antihistamine such as allegra, zyrtec or Claritin for post nasal drip. In many cases the best response occurs if you use both, which is certainly safe to do.

Importantly, it takes a few weeks for the steroid nasal spray to take effect so you should keep with it to see if it helps you.

im taking nasonex (mometasone) for post nasal drip/cough and it helped a lot. is there a cheaper alternative like nasacort or flonase that i can take with zyrtec?

Nasal steroid: Greetings.  Unfortunately the cheapest nasal steroid spray that I have seen is Nasacort (triamcinolone) at 36 US dollars for a 3 month supply. That's about the same as a co pay with insurance coverage for a generic. Nasacort (triamcinolone) and Flonase  OTC are name brand only as of now.  I would suggest continuing with generic zyrtec for allergy control.  Allergy Testing and Immunotherapy may be another option with avoidance.

A good start: Nasonex (mometasone) ia good start if one suspects environmental allergy causing symptoms described for duration of greater than 2 weeks. However, it will take days to weeks of daily use to reach maximum efficacy. Would add twice daily saline irrigation and oral antihistamine such as cetirizine (Zyrtec otc). Can even add decongestant to the antihistamine for faster short-term relief. See allergist for work up

Yes it is, but: Few issues: it seems that you had this problem for a while, keep using the saline nasal wash though, and if you try the nasonex (mometasone) make sure you use it right.Also you are allergic to aspirin and NSAIDs,may be that's the cause of your nasal problems,and you're on a beta blocker.At any rate you need to be assessed by an allergist/immunologist,check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area

Inflamed nose: It is a good treatment but some individuals improve by avoiding irritants or allergens. Others benefit from intranasal saline or cromolyns (nasalchrom) or antihistamines (astelex or astepro). Lastly if your problem is due to chronic allergies rebuilding your immune system with specific immunotherapy is a good idea.

THEY WON'T HELP MUCH: Other than drying it up a bit and thickening it, which can cause cough. The key in trying to eliminate postnasal drip is to cut the inflammatory or environmental response that it is caused by.

Accepted Answer

Several suggestions: Main causes are gastric reflux, dry throat, hypopharyngeal dysfunction, throat diverticulum, chronic nasopharyngitis, chronic sinusitis, allergy.  There are some people who have the sensation with no identifiable cause.  Suggest ENT evaluation.
