Not right away: generally I recommend that for 2 weeks following a diverticulitis episode, my patients remain on a low residue diet. Which is a diet low in fiber. Oatmeal tends to have a high fiber content and I would only start that after 2 weeks.

No: It is still a common myth that certain foods (undigestible foods like grains, corn) lead to more  recurrences of diverticulitis.  Many medical professionals still believe this however.  Some people get recurrent diverticulitis no matter what they eat.

No: No connection with oatmeal. Diverticulitis is caused by blockage of small pockets in the colon which become infected. It is mostly related to chance if they get infected.Nothing actually prevents this from happening. Avoiding constipation is a common sense measure.

Soft foods: I suggest you avoid nuts, candies are hard foods and eat soft types of foods; apple sauce, chicken soup, peanut butter , etc.

That is an excellent: Snack.  Before bed is ok if you are not excessive. Slow cook oatmeal for a filling snack with soluble fiber that can help to reduce your LDL cholesterol.

Accepted Answer

Yes: It is ok to eat many things before running, but usually simple carbohydrates are best. Also, a small-to-moderate size meal, so as to not upset your stomach. Practice first with a small bowl of oatmeal ~30 mins before running, before you try that out on race morning, if you are considering running a race.

You don't need to: Weight loss is mostly about changing how you feel about food, limiting portions, and getting out and exercising. Nobody says you have to eat oatmeal.

Monitor amount: Oatmeal does not cause gout, but there are purines in oatmeal.  Therefore, you may need to limit the intake of oatmeal.  Gout comes from dehydration and is a form of arthritis.  If you are having problems, you need to see a rheumatologist to have this evaluated.

Egg and Fruit: You may have one or two eggs and fruit.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
