In moderation: If you are not taking pain meds  and the extraction site is healing you can resume normal alcohol consumption (in moderation).   In a week the extraction site  has completed a significant amount of repair.  There should not be much bleeding or pain.

would i be putting myself at any risk of dry socket by drinking alcohol (mainly beer) two weeks after a tooth extraction? it's worth noting granulation tissue has already formed as well?

: NO RISK- AT TWO WEEKS HEALING HAS BEGUN TO CLOSE UP EXTRACTION SITE. A DRY SOCKET WOULD HAVE OCCURED WHITHIN A FEW DAYS IF NO BLOOD CLOT HAD FORMED.HAVE A MOLSON ON ME .

i removed my right lower wisdom tooth and developed dry socket. the dentist covered the tooth with a foul tasting gel. i feel much better now and the dentist is removing the gel on my tooth tomorrow. can i smoke or have alcohol??

Don't risk it.: You should not smoke or have any alcohol. Both of these cause immune suppression and can interfere with the healing process. I suggest that you stay away from both for at least 2 weeks until the whole area is completely healed.

Yes: The main issue with a dry socket under treatment is to not disturb or displace any dressings that have been placed there. While no dentist would recommend soda over more healthy choices, careful drinking without using a straw is not specifically contraindicated.

Alcohol/dry socket: You can drink alcohol when you have a dry socket packed. However this , ay impair your ability to prevent any action that would dislodge the packing. Also if you were taking an antibiotic, it may not be as effective with alcohol consumption, .

Straw: Do not drink through a straw for the first 48 hours after they are removed.  And this includes not drinking any alcohol also.

i got treated for dry socket, he put a guaze over it for me to bite down on. im confused. can i remove the guaze to eat/drink?theres brown stuff on it

Accepted Answer

Yes: The brown stuff is a special 'paste' with things like eugenol in it to deaden the pain.  The medicine should be down in the socket, and the gauze was just to keep it in place and prevent it from being washed out.  If you still have questions, contact your surgeon.

was wondering if it would be too soon to drink or smoke after 3 days. would i still get a dry socket?

Dry socket: Smoking is not a good thing to do any time, but if you are symptom free go ahead and have a smoke. Drinking alcohol and taking pain medication are never recommended as it might impair your respiratory drive. One or the other but not both. Any questions contact your dental surgeon.
