Possibly: If you're using the regular immediate release ambien, (zolpidem) cutting a pill in half and using it is possible.  It's not recommended with Ambien (zolpidem) cr (controlled release), though. Controlled release or xr medications have a special coating that allows them to be released over time, in different parts of your GI system.  Cutting the pill breaks this coating, and then you no longer have "controlled release.".

Yes: If it is five or 10 mg tablets. Do not attempt that with the 6.25 or 12.5 extended relief release form.

Do not cut: The CR pill is coated in a way that controls the time/speed the medication is released. Cutting it does not make it in to an IR formulation, it just makes the way the medicine will enter your system very unpredictable-not a good idea for a med with potential for serious side effects.  Your doctor likely will appreciate your efforts to reduce your dose-call and ask for a new prescription.

Do not divide: Typically you should never divide, crush or break sustained release medications.  If you feel a need to wean off of this medication have your doctor switch you to the generic rapid release form of it and titrate this way.  Get pharmaceutical grade lavender and breath a drop of this from palm of hand; place drop on cotton ball under pillow case and it is as powerful as Xanax (alprazolam) or Ambien for sleep.

i take valium 30mg daily, cut off cold turkey from my ambien (zolpidem) 20mg taken for yrs. has caused me bad withdrawal symptoms, but am i safe from seizures?

If still taking Vali: Withdrawal from Ambien (zolpidem) can be difficult but seizures would be very unlikely.  Valium is an excellent drug to avoid seizure activity.

my doctor of 5 yrs just up and kicked me out. for no other reason that she hates me. i'm heart broken. but worse she cut me off meds that are really dangerous. i need a new doctor, but more i need refills for the tramadol, lkorazepam 2mg &ambien.help?

Yes.: Most people require 10 mg., but starting with 5 mg. is fine and maybe that is all that is needed.
