Take a blood test: Symptoms of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are quite different so if you are unsure i suspect he problem is not your thyroid.  If you were found to have an enlarged thyroid the problem could be either one and it could be mild enough that you would have no symptoms. Your regular doctor can examine you and tell you if you have an  enlarged gland and check your thyroid tests if necessary.

Not at same time: Hashimoto's thyroiditis can start out with hyperthyroidism and end with hypothyroidism. With grave's disease antibodies can be activating and blocking. Usually activating is more prevalent.

See your doctor: The most common cause would be that you are getting too much medication. Rarely, a patient with hypothyroidism will convert to graves' disease or autoimmune hyperthyroidism. This will require medication radioactive iodine treatment or surgery.

No: This may be due to taking too much thyroid hormone, but stopping the thyroid pill would likely lead to too little thyroid hormone.  Most often, in this situation, a dose adjustment is needed.  This means working closely with the doctor who prescribed the thyroid hormone for you to find the "just right" dose for you..

Hyperthyroidism: Hyperthyridism because of symptoms are worse and it requires treatment with drugs which has many side effects and may require radioactive iodine treatment or surgery and after that one has to be treated most of the times for hypothyroidism  with Thyroid replacement therapy for life
While treatment of Hyp[othyridism is thyroid replacement therapy for life

Not unusual: Although the opposite is more common (i.E converting from hyperthyroidism to hypothyroidism). You may have been misdiagnosed with hypothyroidism as both tend to have positive antithyroid antibodies and the early phase of hyperthyroidism can manifest with only TSH being low. Regardless, you should seek an endocrine evaluation and perhaps even a thyroid scan to confirm your diagnosis. Good luck.

Hypo: Hypothyroid. But make sure you get complete testing done. Check free T3 and reverse t3. Ft3 should be in upper range and rt3 in lower range. If your ratio is off, you may need Armour Thyroid or t3, and synthroid (thyroxine) would be the wrong med for you.  Also check thyroid antibodies.
