i tested positive for hsv-1 orally with a igg of 38.60. i have never had a sore and or any symptoms. i am married but did something stupid and unprotected oral with two other female partners. should i start on meds right away?

: HSV is very contagious, and easily transmitted with oral/genital contact. A "positive IgG " test only indicates prior exposure to HSV, however,  without current  symptoms, treatment with antiviral meds is not indicated.

Herpes simplex type1: HSV type 1 is very common. Many people catch it in childhood from family members. By mid-adulthood, more than half the population have caught it. In some countries, it is reported that almost all adults will have caught it at some time. There is unlikely any law in any free country that bars marriage if a man and woman are of majority age and sound mind, plus are not familial or genetic relatives.

Unprotected sex: feeling of paper cut after vaginal sex could be due to vaginal wall irritation, micro tears, herpetic lesions or other form of infections

Herpes simplex: It does not sound as if you have a herpetic eruption on your genitalia, but does sound as if you should be seen by a doctor and have this diagnosed and treated appropriately. Best wishes.

Not fatal: Although anxiety provoking and no one wishes for it,  hsv-1/herpes virus is not a fatal disease unless one is quite sickly or immunosuppressed.

Yes BUT: Babies born vaginally are at risk for aquiring herpes infection from the mother even though she does not have an out break. She can still shed the virus without symptoms. The baby is at higher risk if delivered vaginally. The preferred method for the babies safety is c-section.

Yes: You have to watch for an outbreak around the time of delivery and take Acyclovir if this is suspected, but yes you can have a baby!

Possible...: Newborn babies can be exposed to the herpes virus as they pass through the birth canal.  This can happen even if moms do not have active lesions at delivery.  Your OB doctor and pediatrician should be informed of your history if they do not already know it. Newborn babies may develop illness from herpes in the days after delivery. If your child has a fever or develops a rash or is ill call md.

Herpes Exposure: If you don't know if you have herpes then you can have a blood test for the antibodies to both hsv 1 & 2. If you have no antibodies you have not been exposed and thus cannot pass it along.

If you are pregnant I am sure you obstetrician can help you with this. They may already have tested you.
