i have paid going up both sides of my head a little ways.up. i have pain severe on left side of my neck going diwn shoulder and into my arm. feels numb below neck and the bones hurt! i also have tmj. paid little ways diwn my spine . what can this?

: I don't think these varied symptoms can be explained by one disorder as both sides of your body are symptomatic. Radiculopathies from bone spurs or bulging discs in your vertetbrae, especially on the left side of your spine. This wouldn't explain bilateral head discomfort,numbness below the neck,generalized bone pain. Spinal pain may be from diffuse facet arthritis of your spine. See an orthopedis

Perhaps: See your doctor if the symtoms persist. The best treatment for tm is rest. So eat soft foods for a week

Pain management: You could be having chronic jaw and neck pain.  I have seen patients having symptoms of head pain which refers to the neck, shoulders and arm and vice versa.  You may require a combination of physical therapy, posture training and short term medications.  If you have been having these problems for a long time, consult the craniofacial pain center at the tufts dental school.

with my tmj i get reoccurring stiffness on the left side of my jaw down to my shoulder. what can i do to stop and prevent this painful stiffness?

Try this first: Try dipping a washcloth in warm water (not so hot as to burn yourself) and gently place on the stiff area allowing the heat to soak in and repeat.  Open and close mouth slowly.  Remember soft diet ; no chewing gum. This may loosen the tight muscles.  Otherwise see your dentist.

TMD/TMJ: TMJ Dysfunction can be related to other postural disorders, and how the spine aligns and that may present as radiating or referred pain to other adjacent areas such as shoulder, neck, etc.  In other words, different muscles and joints may affect synergistic interaction so out of balance of one part may affect others. Having said that, pain in shoulders, neck?throat could also be totally unrelated.

TMJ neck pain: Not sure what MRI you had spine, TMJ?  Sounds like  TMJ syndrome as that can cause neck pain, Assess for   teeth grinding.  Usual treatment for muscle pain is NSAIDs and muscle relaxants,PT  sometimes steroids. Seek medical attention from a dentist as they treat TMJ/teeth grinding (guards)usually. If all negative consider cervical spine MRI, follow with neurosurgeon /ENT

i am on geodon (ziprasidone) but it is not working because it is giving me tmj. can jaw tightness clenching be related to shoulder and trapezius stiffness? tight

Geodon (ziprasidone) Side Effects: Good day;
   Not familiar with patients taking Geodon; however, suggest you confer with your MD about lowering daily dose. TMJ symptoms may be controlled with an bruxing mouth guard or specially designed Orthodic device. A  low dose muscle relaxant  would lessen clenching and some stiffness. Frequent PT to bring blood flow to the tender, stiff muscles would improve your comfort level. Good luck

It is all connected!: The TM Joint can refer pain down into the neck, shoulder and arm.  Our bodies brace when we experience pain.  If left untreated, the pain can spread throughout our entire head and neck area and into the shoulder and arm.  
Schedule an evaluation as soon as you can to get to the bottom of the problem.

Doubt cardiac: you need to get an a valuation of the musculoskeletal problems. Your physician can have you see a rheumatologist or an orthopedic surgeon they can better clarify your discomfort
