can testicular torsion lead to low testosterone?

Maybe: It all depends upon how badly your testis was harmed.  Realistically, you actually only need one testis to supply enough testosterone & sperm.  And since only one testis typically undergoes torsion, even if that one is damaged enough to require removal, you should still have enough from the other. You're hosed only if both testes twist at same time w/o getting treatment soon enough.

i suffer from intermittent testicular torsion and i have now developed low testosterone as a result. how can i recover from low libido ? are there any other alternatives to testosterone replacement therapy ? trt stops spermatogenesis. what options ?

: If the diagnosis of intermittent torsion is correct have it fixed ASAP. Low testosterone does not develop from that. There are many reason for low lobido. Replacement therapy is for low testosterone.  Self diagnosis wrong and dangerous. You should see a Urologist to straighten things out

: First, it's not your fault. Delayed surgery was not necessarily why your testicle could not be saved:  some cases of complete torsion result in testicle loss even if treated very promptly. In reply to the main question, your testosterone levels undoubtedly are normal now and will remain so for your entire life. One testicle provides normal hormone levels. Your fertility also will not be affected.

Monitoring advised.: The majority of young men losing a testis to torsion suffer no significant problems of fertility or testosterone levels.  Like any medical condition however, there is a wide spectrum of results different patients may experience. If concerned, you may monitor your levels and measure blood tests in the future to check your status as indicated.

what do you suggest if my low testosterone (280ng/dl) and testicular pain?

Go see your doctor: Theoretically, most labs use 250ng/dL as the  lower limit of normal such that 280ng/dL result is "normal". However, some of us feel that "low normal" is worth treating assuming one has symptoms. Testicular pain, OTOH, is totally different and needs to be evaluated by your doc, separate from hypogonadism. Infections, trauma, torsion &amp; even cancer (in those under 40yo) are possible diagnoses

No: Atrophic tetes is not an indication for biopsy.

Accepted Answer

Not usually: Dhea is a precursor and the elevation of testosterone it causes is not substantial.
On the other hand, you should measure your testosterone again and make sure it truly is abnormal.  380 could be physiologically adequate for you.

Doctor can examine: Testicle symptoms means a trip to one's doctor for an exam in-person. If there is torsion, the testicle can die due to lack of blood flow. Other causes of testicle symptoms include trauma, infection, twisting of an appendix of a testicle (a small lump next to a testicle), etc... Since one usually cannot tell if his testicle is twisted, an in-person exam by the doctor is needed.

Unclear, but...: Real reason is unclear, but fact/experience tells it occurs in men with inborn poor fixation to the sac so to form so-called bell-clapper deformity of testis. While its peak age around 15-19, it may occur at any age. Based the timing of its occurrence, it has been construed that hyperactivity of cremasteric muscles of spermatic cord may be prone to incite its twisting.

Tolerance to pain: Testicular torsion is the twisting of the spermatic cord, which cuts off the blood supply to the testicle and surrounding structures within the scrotum.Pain is associated with torsion. The pain  uusally sudden onset and would cause most pieople to seek emergency help. It sometimes has to be differentiated from epididymo-orchitis, an inflammation of testicle and epididymis.Depends on pain tolerance.
