Burning mouth: Yes sometimes. Secondary yeast infections can come with such sprays and cause burning. Rinse your mouth out after using steroid sprays. If you have the problem now see your doctor to help you get rid of the oral candidiasis.

Not really: All medications that contain cortisone like steroids have a label required by fda to mention that they "may" effect eyes, bones, growth, adrenal gland, etc.  The real problem is with steroid pills used for long periods or steroid injections.   Steroid nasal sprays are very safe in the recommended dosages.  The current available data is reassuring.

why do some people do not respond at all to corticosteroid nasal sprays( fluticasone,mometasone)? do steroids fail to reduce inflammation in such people?does it also mean that steroid would be unable to cause any side effect in such bodies/people?

Accepted Answer

: It doesn’t mean that the steroids are not decreasing inflammation. It could mean that there is another etiology for the symptoms. For example, if a nasal polyp is causing the symptoms, the polyp may need to be removed to treat the symptoms. So, if the nasal steroids are not helping, see an ear/nose/throat specialist for evaluation/treatment. Best of luck to you!

Very rare: This would be a very rare side effect, and only rarely seen after taking it for a very long time. This is because the steroid acts locally in the nose and the sinuses and is not absorbed by the bloodstream

steroid nasal spray helps my eustachian tube dysfunction but i can't take it because it causes migraines. is there something else that will help?

: Need more information re: "eustachian tube dysfunction", but if what is meant is a blocking of hearing (like after being in a swimming pool), it is probably not coming from an inflammatory source.  See an ENT specialist in case it is secondary to "ear wax buildup".  Mineral oil can moisten hard wax and improve the wax buildup, decreasing hearing problems.

can a decongestant like mucinex (guaifenesin) and a steroid nasal spray like fluticasone taken too much over time cause loss of smell and taste?

Mucinex (guaifenesin): Is not a nasal decongestant. It is same as Guaifenesin or plain Robitussin which is a mucolytic or expectorant. Chronic nasal congestion can make you lose sense of taste and smell, and likely not the medicines.

i am prescribed a steroidal nasal spray for sinitius. whenever i take it i can feel it dripping down and taste of it. is there can be serious effect if it gets swallowed?? i have also started facing hair loss can this be a reason??

: There are several ways to handle this, including using saline nasal spray to help wash the allergens in combination with the steroid. You could also use water to swish and spit after using the spray to reduce the swallowing. There is systemic effect of swallowed steroid but it is not as bad as in taking dosed oral steroid. Hair loss could be due to several factors including androgens and stress.

Usually there is: fever, however, as we see more patients with Covid-19, we are seeing a wide range of symptoms, as well as those who seem to have no symptoms, who may be contagious.If one generally takes a nasal steroid spray for allergies or sinus issues, one should be fine taking it to see if it helps. If you are short of breath, you should call your doctor or go to the ER.

Congestion: Sinus congestion can cause all sorts of problems, , so if you have congestion along with ear fullness, dizziness, etc it is likely that the congestion is contributing.  Also, the tubes that drain your ears could also be blocked, causing your ears to get congested.  Good luck!
