i am diagnosed with cellulitis in my upper eyelid and cheek on one side of my face. im taking antibiotic, & the only pain relief ive found is a cool wet cloth on my face. is there such a thing as too much time to use a cool compress daily?

: Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection and facial involvement is very dangerous. Cold applications are not a good idea as they restrict blood circulation and you want good circulation for infection treatment. If the infection is not quickly improving get reevaluated for diagnosis &amp; more effective treatment and you may want to consult an infectious disease specialist, which is my recommendation.

uti first thing in morning and clear rest of day (dr confirms). uti treated with estrogen. do i need antibiotics - no-one seems to know for certain??

UTI: If you have a urinary tract infection, the only way to treat that is to use antibiotics. Lack of estrogen in the vulvo-vaginal tissues in post-menopausal women can make them more prone to UTIs. So, it is a good idea to use topical estrogen, but if it is a true UTI you should probably also take an antibiotic.

hi my daughter 1year old had scarlet fever in oct last year and has been ill with one thing & another needing a lot of antibiotics since isit linked?

Probably not: related. Scarlet fever is strep with a rash, no more serious than that. Children of this age tend to get a lot of viral infections and some bacterial. Without knowing the specifics of the other illnesses, it's hard to know if there's an underlying problem. Please discuss with her doctor and/or ask for a referral to a immunology specialist.

Needs evaluation: Lumps, bumps, blisters and other skin abnormalities on the genitals need to be evaluated. An examination will be needed to know the cause and treatment. IT sounds like you are describing a Bartholin cyst. An Obgyn can look at it to confirm. Then if needed it can be surgically treated

hubby has sore throat on one side no other syptoms, doc said he could see a boil like thing. took antibiotic went away now it's back. what could it be?

Needs a re-check: One-sided sore throat, with a visible lesion, not resolved with antibiotic, brings to mind a couple if possibilities. One is a possible abscess. An abscess would need to be treated in the Emergency Room by an ENT specialist. The other thought would be evaluation for a tumor. In both instances, and in light of him not being better, he needs to be re-evaluated. If his voice is affected go to ER

No: Some antibiotics can irritate the stomach and are best taken with or just after food. Others are best absorbed on an empty stomach,however. Your pharmacist can advise you about your medications and how to take them.

Yes: Some antibiotics can sometimes cause a feeling of fatigue. Of course, the infection for which you are receiving the antibiotic could also be the cause.

Full Amount: It is best to take your antibiotics exactly as your physician prescribes. So take the full amount a day, and for the full length of time. If you miss a dose, try to take it as soon as you remember without taking multiple doses at one time. And it is important that even if you're feeling better after a few days-still take the full prescription to make sure you're rid of the infection.

accidently took 2 antibiotics instead of one! should i be worried?

Not yet: Did you take 2 doses of same antibiotic or 1 dose each of 2 different antibiotics?  Either way, if it's just 1 extra dose, no serious harm...This time.  Always double check labels on meds before taking.  As the careful carpenter says, "measure twice, cut once.".

how long before stopping 1 antibiotic before starting a different one?

Immediately: You do not have to wait. Make sure it is prescribed. Sometimes  we use a combination of antibiotics. If your infection was resistant to previous antibiotic you can start the new antibiotic right away.
