ANA: This will not detect the presence or absence of syphilis. If you had a negative RPR the overwhelming probability is that you have not had syphilis.

Lag period: The tests for these infections generally rely on antibody production by the infected person. It may take a few weeks to a few months for the test to become positive. During this period, a negative result would not rule out infection.
