what is done for an adult strep infection in joints?

Culture and antibiot: The "bug" should be identified in joint fluid and it's sensitivity to various antibiotics determined.  Usually IV antibiotics are initially used, but a septic joint can lead quickly to arthritis, and in some cases orthopedic intervention is required.  Paradoxically, I do see overdiagnosis of strep septic joints because it is a common contaminant from skin.

Several things: This is one of those problems where a visit to your doctor is necessary to figure out what's going on.  Only after a thorough evaluation, including examination and possibly labs and other tests, can your doctor correctly diagnose you and treat you effectively.

No: If a carrier has had acute strep infection and has antibodies--found by blood tests they could have post strep arthritis--a carrier should not have chronic joint pains.

Not often if treared: Strep infection may lead to other inflammatory illnesses, including: 
scarlet fever, an illness characterized by a rash
 inflammation of the kidney (poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis)
 rheumatic fever, a serious condition that can affect the heart, joints, nervous system and skin
 
the risk of developing severe complications from strep throat is low in the United States.

Untreated Strep: Strep throat is a bacterial infection that is cured with antibiotics. Untreated Strep infections can lead to diseases of the joints, heart, kidneys and nervous system.  If exposed and symptomatic, a visit to your doctor for a Strep test would be wise.

i woke up with very swollen uvula, bloody. hard and painful to swallow. initial strep test at hospital came back negative. no fever. joints hurt.

This can progress to: a serious or life threatening condition if other areas of the throat and palate become involved. You should be evaluated at a health care facility as soon as possible.

Post Strep: There are poststreptococcal arthritis syndromes. The best known is acute rheumatic fever. More often in adults we see post streptococcal arthritis. I cannot say for sure you have that picture need an evaluation. Often if your strep throat is treated soon enough such occurrences can be prevented. Your arthritis evaluation will clarify that.

if i have a uti (not under meds) and get strep throat with fever over 101........joint and body aches with sore throat........can that make uti worse?

Accepted Answer

Possible: Since you are not on antibiotics, your immune system has to do all the work.  If you have other infections going on, your body may be weaker allowing the infections to worsen.  However, even without the sore throat and joint aches, UTI will get worse over time.  Also, with your combination of symptoms, i would get checked out asap and get antibiotics.  All your symptoms may be from stds.

pain my ribs, shoulders, numerous otr joints.  scan inflammation. started last year. diangosis as. now a sore throat and glands for 5 wks. night sweats, fevers, tired. neg strep/mono, low rbc. hurts to chew?

Follow up with doc: Please follow up with your doctor.  It sounds as if you are still not doing well even with therapy for the as, so additional testing may be needed determine if you may have developed another condition in addition to the as or if the medication isn't adequately treating your symptoms and needs to be changed or additional ones added.  Consider seeing a rheumatology specialist if you haven't before.

5 days sore throat, severe body/joint ache & fever (100-102). thought it was strep or virus, but today i find a bullseye-like bite on my trunk. can it be lyme disease? is it too early for blood test?

See your doctor: Acute lyme disease can present with those symptoms and the rash like you described.  You should see your physician for appropriate testing and medication.
