Macrophages: When a laser is use to reduce the appearance of tattoo's they break up the pigment into smaller particles. You body then has macrophages - think of them as biologic "packmen" that gobble up the particles.

good evening! is it true that a tattoo carries the risk of developing cancer, since the ink resides within the skin for so long? is there any worry from a doctors standpoint of why you shouldnt leave ink permanently placed in the skin?

: While a clear like between tattoos and cancer has still to be proven, multiple health risks have been clearly connected to tattoos, from systemic infections, such as hepatitis and HIV to local infections and aside from causing skin conditions through chronic inflammation. Definitely not a medically recommended procedure.

will the rash caused by scabies wreck any of the ink in my tattoos? will the burrowing cause any kind of scarring on top of the skin?

Unlikely, but . . .: Inflammation, rash, and scratching has a potential to cause your body to degrade and absorb some of the tattoo ink in localized spots. Cure the scabies, don't scratch in the meantime, and watch those sexual contacts. There are worse things that can happen than your tats fading a bit.

Dermis: Henna is used on the epidermis. Permanent tattoos are ink within the macrophages of the dermis, and even if the epidermis is lost, as in a third degree burn, they'll still be there.

Best avoided: You are on anti-rejection medication which also lowers your resistance to infection.  There is a risk from the multiple needle sticks of a tattoo.  Besides, tattoos are permanent and sometimes will haunt you in the future.  There are temporary, stick on tattoos, which can be safe and you can vary these and have fun with them without and danger to yourself.

i have a tattoo on my foot its about a month old and i'm rejecting the pink ink its very bumpy and itchy can i take something to help with the itch?

Yes: The red ink or pink ink is causing an allergy. In time this should get better but you can not undergo laser tattoo removal for this particular situation. Steroid cream may help  and occasional antihistamines .

Unfortunately : The laser does not remove the ink, it merely bleaches the color to make the tattoo less visible.
If you are sensitive to something in the ink, the laser may alter it into something that doesn't react with your body - or - more likely, you will still react to it.
Perhaps an Allergist can desensitize you to the ink. It's worth a try.

burnt my leg and i have a tattoo that is only 10 months old in the same spot. the burn was initially scaly and felt rough; it formed a blister three days after the initial injury. will the ink cause infection? its second degree, so down to dermis?

: Having a burn over a tattoo may result in an infection from the skin bacteria entering from the outside.  The 10 month old tattoo will not be the cause of the infection/inflammation although some people have allergic reactions to the ink, especially red ink

Yes: Some people are sensitive to the ink in tatoos....You can also develop severe infections from the ink.
