what are the causes for an umbilical hernia to develop in an adult? after doing sit ups a few months ago, it developed.. underlying causes for uh?

Abdominal pressure: All abdominal wall hernias are aggravated by factors that increase intra-abdominal pressure such as chronic constipation, chronic cough, or chronic straining with urination. They occur at points of weakness in the abdominal wall fascia. These points of weakness are most commonly congenital such as umbilical hernia but can be post surgical as well.

i have mild hiatal hernia which causes my acid reflux.  but i feel i am getting fat, so i like to do sit ups. is it ok?

Okay: Losing weight will help your symptoms.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Usually not: Hernias occur frequently, more often in males. Hernias can form at birth. Exercises and activities may make a hernia condition more noticeable with swelling or discomfort, but exercise itself does not likely cause a hernia to form.

i was told that sit ups are bad for a hiatal hernia. how many situps would it take to make a hiatal hernia larger or does it just take one sit up to do it?

: Anything done in moderation is beneficial. If you do not do any very heavy exertion  normal sit-ups in any number are OK

Usually: A hiatal hernia is an enlargement of the hole in the diaphragm thru which the esophagus passes to enter into the abdomen.  This usually causes no symptoms but may contribute to acid reflux if the stomach slides thru this hole into the chest.  Theoretically, increased abdominal pressure, such as ab exercises, may accentuate this reflux; if so, this would cause heartburn at the time.

i started having pain in my stomach. its the kind you get from doing too many sit ups. it hurts to cough, stand up, just sitting sometimes.  its just above my waist   could this be from having hernia surgeries ?

No strenuous activit: An incisional hernia needs to be repaired. Strenuous activity and exercise can worsen the problem. It can cause bowel to protrude through the hernia defect and get stuck. This then converts the problem into an emergency. He needs to see his doctor/surgeon in order to get it repaired.

Musculoskeletal: If it is activity related more likely to be musculoskeletal like costochondritis.  Hiatal hernia usually results more in heartburn type pain.  either way if its not improving u may need additional testinsg

i had an inguinal hernia surgery 3 years back. after ejaculating i feel discomfort in perineum when i sit on a chair or bed. what's the reason?

Hernia: It may or may not be related to your hernia repair. Pain in your perineum during ejaculation may be a prostate issue. I would recommend seeing a urologist.
