Yes: Shingles, unfortunately, is not a one time affair but rather a recurring one.  Anytime that your immune system declines - from stress, lack of sleep, fighting another infection, the virus can slip its leash and show up at the same exact spot even decades later.

Shingles: Covering will help but it could still be touched and passed that way. I would not take a chance. You could be serving someone who is not immune to varicella or immune compromised. Be safe!

if under high stress is it possible for shingles to return within a few months? i still have pnh but the pain is beginning in a new location.

Possible: Shingles can recur but this occurs rarely. When a recurrence occurs it is usually in a different location.  If you feel you are having a recurrence, see your physician for treatment.

Shingles: I'm skeptical that the subsequent eruptions are also shingle flareups. If you have a current eruption, rash or skin lesions,I would like a physician or a dermatologist to examine you in order to get a proper diagnosis and, if needed, appropriate treatment.

how soon can i return to a steroid, if need be, for crohn's after having the shingles vaccination?

Your Doc can help: The doctor who asked you to stop the steroid after your shingles shot must have a good answer. Did you not ask him/her?
I my view steroids do not interfere with the immunization process. So technically you could restart the steroid medicine anytime your bowel problem has the need for it. But do check with your own doctor as there is no hard/fast rule with regard to your vaccination situation.

i was diagnosed with ramsay hunt (shingles) a week ago and have been drinking the prescribed anti virals and pain medication. i just want to know if i complete the medication today, is it safe for me to return to work?

Basics:  Shingles differ significantly from chickenpox in their nature. Instead of being very contagious through airborne droplet/cough/etc. the only material of concern is what weeps from skin wounds. If no one else comes in contact with that material they cannot get shingles or chickenpox from you. Cover any healing wound &amp; you are fine to return.

Herpes zoster: My policy would be to treat this because of the location and the potential for post-herpetic neuralgia. Why you were not seen by the dermatologist is a mystery.

Shingles…: Is reactivation of virus that causes chickenpox (herpes zoster/ varicella). May start as burning sensation in the distribution of nerve(s); later blisters on a red background appear; eventually the blisters scab over. Anti-viral meds should be used as soon as diagnosis is made to prevent severe, lasting pain of post-herpetic neuralgia. Avoid contact with pregnant/people who've not had chickenpox.

Yes: Shingles is a virus that reactivates in sensory nerves and as a result leads to pain.  Antivirals are given to help but the pain can last for awhile.
