Rarely: Rarely, shingles can recur and do not have to be in the same spot. The pain and burning precede the rash, and follow a nerve distribution. It can occur anywhere.

: The hallmark symptom of Shingles is burning pain at the site of the rash. There are many other dermatitis conditions that cause an itchy rash. Talk to your dermatologist ASAP, as Shingles can be treated in early disease with an antiviral. If it is a different rash, your Dr will be able to assess and treat this.

Possible: Intraoral zoster is uncommon, but may produce a sharp unilateral distribution (trigeminal v3) of lesions. No intraoral prodromal symptoms occur. The lesion is very similar to herpes virus infections.
See your dentist for further investigation.

See your doctor: It could be another herpes virus, herpes simplex or another type of rash. See a doctor to get a diagnosis and treatment.

A few days, but...: It can take 4-5 days or more. If it seems slower, ask your doctor about treatment with valacyclovir rather than acyclovir. Val gives much higher blood levels and is the main drug recommended for treating shingles. Acyclovir can work in especially high doses, though. Discuss with your doctor. Good luck!

i have 3 red (bites/rashes) biggest, bigger and big on my rib cage. a dr said shingles but i think bug bites (bed bugs?). i found zero bugs in my bed.

Topical antibiotics: Pain, redness, sometimes itching, blisters and a rash especially along a rib, that does not cross the midline either in the front or back, is very concerning and characteristic  for shingles. Antiviral medication would best treat this. If it's just a localized area of redness and swelling, topical antibiotics may be helpful.
