See a dermatologist: First you need an accurate diagnosis. Then you can be helped according to the nature of the spots. None of the things you tried will ever effect freckles.

Third best treatment: Selenium sulfide found in selsun blue kills the fungi (malassezia furfur) that causes tinea versiclolor. Applying the shampoo, letting it dry on for 10 minutes,  washing it off, do this daily for 7-10 days may do the trick. Or .... Ask your doctor for a single dose of Fluconazole or ketoconazole and watch your skin clear up.

i think i have 2 ringworms on my scalp. will washing with selsun blue get rid of them? it says it has 1% selenium sulfide as the active ingredient.

Unlikely: If it is true scalp ringworm, the topical lotions can reduce the surface growth but the problem is deeper.Scalp ringworm gets down into the root system of the hair and usually requires oral prescription meds that get there through the blood. IF your problem is really a ringworm, it is unlikely to go away with such treatment.

i used nizoral (ketoconazole) anti dandruff shampoo accidently instead of selsun blue to get rid of skin irriation and it make my scrotum red/dry any suggestions?

Shouldn't cause any: The Nizoral (ketoconazole) should not cause any problems in the scrotal area. The Nizoral (ketoconazole) is an anti-fungal shampoo, so could help with jock itch in the scrotal area. The selsun blue is selenium- more for the scalp dryness and therefore helps the dandruff.

how long does it take for selsun blue to completely get rid of dandruff?

Usualy 1-2 weeks: Dandruff (seborheic dermatitis) will usually clear with selsun blue in 1-2 weeks if the case is mild.  Sometimes it is more severe and will require more aggressive treatment.  See your doctor or a dermatologist if the selsun blue is not helping after a couple weeks.

i used selsun blue first time a month ago now my scalp is extremely inflamed and irritated & hypersensitive. how can i get rid of the bad discomfort?

Cortisone: Topical cortisone lotion (may need a rx) will likely stop the inflammation.  In the meanwhile, stop scratching and trying to peel off the scabs.

Persistence: Tinea versicolor takes time to clear & often recurs. Perhaps prescription strength selenium sulfide lotion (2.5%) applied for 10 minutes daily for 7 days will work better than otc selsun blue (due to higher concentration of active ingredient). Washing clothing , bedding, bath linens (or perhaps using an ultraviolet wand) to destroy the fungus will speed recovery.

nizoral&neutrogena seem to relieve me of the itching from seborrheic dermatitis however don't really get rid of the flakes, how's selsun blue instead?

Seb derm flakes: Washing the hair more frequently, adding a salicylic acid or tar shampoo helps get rid of flakes, as does adding a cortisone solution to help decrease inflammation.  If the seborrheic dermatitis is persistent despite treatment, please see your dermatologist.

No: I recommend to my patients hydroquinone which is a perscription use at night then sunscreen in morning when you go out.

Shampoo: There is no restriction as to the type of shampoo that you can use anything is good
