Accepted Answer

Floaters,: Floaters, the little bits of scar tissue in the jelly of the eye that lead or lag behind the motion of the eye thus drift or "float" are made worse in excessive eye rubbing or worse can lead to retinal tears or detachment. Avoid this practice. Treat the itching if that is what the problem is in the first place. Wear your corrective lenses to see where you are going or it won't be just eyes hurt.

Pinguecula: It may be a sun damage area of conjunctiva that is called Pinguecula.  You may had it but you may be came more aware of it now.  Please wear sun glasses that have both UV A and B coatings.  Pinguecula can get irritated and inflamed then it becomes more red and visible.

No: Usually not but if you have floaters, you need to see your eye doctor.

Not uncommon!: Floaters are opacities within the vitreous gel in the eye.  Things that accelerate the degeneration of the gel beside age include trauma (including eye rubbing).

Accepted Answer

Vitreous changes: Floaters are common and usually due to a change in the protein composition of the vitreous (inside gel of the eye). Rarely these changes can cause a significant change in the retina (like a hole or tear). If the floaters are worse, see an eyemd for evaluation.

Not true: Eye rubbing cannot cause floaters.

can shampoo in the eyes cause retinal damage or other serious harm? my floaters seemed worse, and my vision "bright," after shampoo got in my eyes.

Accepted Answer

No: Getting shampoo in the eye can cause a to of irritation and burning.  However it will not affect the inside of the eye.  Also the brightness should not be affected.

Nuisance: Usually not dangerous.
Eyelashes have no effect.

Re-examination: If you’re still having symptoms of floaters and your vision doesn’t seem right, schedule a follow up appointment. You will need a refraction and a dilated eye exam. Only by this exam will you know for sure if you need glasses to help your near and far vision, and whether your retina is free of breaks or tears. Computer use has fatigued many of eyes and often requires discussion on aides. Good luck

can tension headaches cause aches behind the eyes and eye floaters? if not, what can be the cause of dull tension-type headaches with neck stiffness, eye floaters, and facial aches? symptoms have been occurring for about 7-10 days. worse at night?

: Floaters are not caused by tension headaches.  I would keep a headache diary recording every thing you eat and do and share with your Dr to see if the two of you can find the cause.
