what is the best allergy med (most safe) if a patient has had seizures?  my daughter (18) was taking zyrtec, rhinocort,  &advair for allergies & mild asthma prior to having seizures that began almost a yr. ago.  to air on the safe side he took her off all

Fexofenadine: Tough to say which is safest and if any can contribute to sezures in your daughter, but fexofenadine (allegra) does not cross the blood brain barrier. That is the reason it does not cause drowsiness. And because it does not cross the blood brain barrier, it likely has limited ability to contribute to your daughters seizures.

Not recommended: These are both antihistamines and i'd not recommend using them at the same time because their effects could be potentiated/stronger than normal.  The biggest side effects to expect from either drug is drowsiness.

Antihistamine: Both of them are antihistamines, so there is no added benefit to combine them. It would be preferable to take one or the other. The 'd' refers to a decongestant that is combined with the antihistamine.

Shouldn't be a probl: As you probably know, melatonin is usually used to help sleep and zyrtec (cetirizine) is for allergies.  There is no negative interaction between them.  However, allergy medications on their own can sometimes interfere with sleep.  So you may want to take the zyrtec (cetirizine) in the morning and the melatonin at night.

im getting surgery tommorow and i wanted to know if its safe to still take acetominofen and my zyrtec (cetirizine) cause i haven't taken anything in days?

YES: There are some medications that are best not to take.  They include aspirin, ibuprofen, and some blood pressure medications.  Tylenol (acetaminophen) and zyrtec should both be fine today.

i have successfully taken rhinocort aqua for years and was give budesidine by walgreens as a generic instead. is it exactly the same?  could there be differences in side effects?

Generic drugs: Generic medications by FDA standards have to meet the same dosage of active ingredient as the Brand Name drug.  There should no side effect differences between the two medications (as they are usually caused by the active ingredient)  Good Luck

Zyrtec (cetirizine): Zyrtec (cetirizine) is a safe and generally well tolerated medication. The medication is an antihistamine used for allergies. Following recommended dosage safe and used on daily basis. Can precipitate urinary retention in men with enlarged prostate. Most frequent side affect somnolence or fatigue usually avoided by dosage at bedtime.

Half-life: With a half-life of 8 hours roughly, i would give it a few days for zyrtec (cetirizine) to clear out of your system.

Yes: Antihistamine is safe even with 4x the average daily dose.  The major side effects would be dry mouth and drowsiness ( the latter much less common if one uses the non-sedating type).

why would alprazolam 0.25 taken 1 at bedtime every day not show up on a udt?the only thing ive changed is im now taking zyrtec (cetirizine).please help!

Ask your doctor: make sure your doctor orders a urine test that tests specifically for alprazolam. There are different toxicology tests and not all will pick up alprazolam. Many people on chronic benzodiazepines have this problem of testing false negative because they are not tested using the correct method. your doctor may have to contact the lab to find out which to order, and it could be an expensive test.
