i take prilosec in morning and zantac (ranitidine) at bedtime. zantac (ranitidine)  helped at night for a while..but now it isn't.  what can i do.

Increase the prilose: You may take an additional Prilosec at bedtime, or see your doctor for a rx strength
medication. An antacid as an additional 
medication may also be helpful.
If you have symptoms of relux over 2 times a week which are unrelieved with over the counter medications,  (burning from acid in your esophagus) you should seeyour dr.

i eat lots of sugar before bedtime i wake up the next morning with a higher than usual hr. why is this?hr upon waking 75+. i take atenolol daily 75mg

Diet/HR: Blood sugar elevations may or may not affect your heart rate especially if you are diabetic or pre- diabetic. I suggest a formal glucose tolerance test by your PCP and certainly modifying your diet, avoiding bedtime sugar loading. Call for formal blood testing and also have your thyroid function evaluated.

my doc advised me to take 40mg pantoprazole twice a day and ranitidine 300 mg at bedtime.is it safe for me?

Nocturnal acid : It is not a standard of care in practice to combine ppi and h2 blocker. It has side effects but there is one study that shows some benefit in lowering the reflux but i don't suggest to do it,    see here: addition of a h2 receptor antagonist to ppi improves acid control and decreases nocturnal acid breakthrough.

Ranitidine dosage: Ranitidine/Zantac is the same drug. The former is the generic name. They come in 150mg and 300 mg pills. So it would be difficult to get 500 mg at a time.
Call the doctor's office to clear up the confusion.

i take atenolol 50mg at bedtime for htn & having a lot of swelling in feet, legs in the evenings. is it ok to split the dose 25 morning and 25 nigot?

It is a bit unusual: for Atenolol to cause significant fluid retention and edema. Splitting the dose will not make a difference. I suspect that the edema is actually from your diet or your hypertension not the medication. You need to discuss this with your health care provider. It could represent hypertension induced renal dysfunction.

Tomatoes?: High fat meals and fried foods, large meals, chocolate, coffee, with or without caffeine, alcohol, mint, carbonated beverages, citrus juices, and tomato products all may aggravate gerd.

Only if prescribed: These are similar medications and have very similar effects and will cause a drop in your blood pressure. That being said, some people have to be on several medications to have effective control of their blood pressure. Based on your information you needed to be on them. You need to discuss with your physician especially if you are feeling dizzy or lightheaded as you maybe on too much.

Accepted Answer

Avoid: Avoid taking antacids or vitamin or mineral supplements with Cipro (ciprofloxacin) as this may also decrease the effectiveness of the medication.

can 10mg celexa (citalopram) be taken with ranitidine?

Accepted Answer

No: Ranitidine (like omeprazole) inhibits the liver enzyme 2c19 that Celexa (citalopram) requires for its metabolism.  The combination could cause a build-up of Celexa (citalopram) in your system, exposing you to risks of serotonin syndrome and heart rhythm disturbances.  I do not recommend using these two together.
