I take atenolol 50mg at bedtime for htn & having a lot of swelling in feet, legs in the evenings. is it ok to split the dose 25 morning and 25 nigot?

It is a bit unusual: for Atenolol to cause significant fluid retention and edema. Splitting the dose will not make a difference. I suspect that the edema is actually from your diet or your hypertension not the medication. You need to discuss this with your health care provider. It could represent hypertension induced renal dysfunction.
