how big should lymph nodes normally be?

Usually not felt: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

when it comes to lymph nodes how big is bad. like lymphoma?

Depends: It really depends on location.  On ct scans, some nodes over 8 mm are considered abnormal, some need to be over 10 mm.  However, in some cases, in certain areas, just seeing lymph nodes is abnormal.  Also, sometimes we see too many nodes, even though they are not enlarged, and that is abnormal.

i have had big lymph nodes throughout my body all my life what does that mean?

Don't worry too much: If your lymph nodes have truly been "big" your whole life and all over your body, and you don't get sick more than other people, this is probably normal for your body.  But, if your lymph nodes have recently started getting bigger or feel sore/tender, or if you tend to get sick more easily than other people, you should have a complete physical to look for problems with your blood & immune system.

if lymph nodes were enlarged due to lymphoma how big would they be after a year? how fast do do they grow?  would there be sypmtoms after a year?

Good questions: There are different kinds of lymphoma with very different behaviors. Some are terribly aggressive and the nodes can double in size in a few days whereas others are very indolent and may remain unchanged for months or years. Same applies for symptoms, the most common of which is just an enlarged node.

Highly variable: If you think you might have HIV disease you should go and be tested asap.  The size of lymph nodes and their location may have nothing whatever to do with the cause.  Please do not delay in seeing a doctor if this is what you suspect.  The earlier you are treated the better the likely outcome.

i've been always able to feel my armpit lymph nodes, they are smaller than 1cm none of them is big im underw8, movable.. is this normal?

Anatomy: Yes. It is absolutely normal. Please stop irritating or touching or manipulating these glands.

big bite started as a bite with red line extending away.  turning into swollen bump and lymph nodes in the area swollen as well.  is this a concern?

You Need Med-checkup: If you have a "swollen Bump" and enlarged lymph nodes, you likely have infection in this area. Infections require proper Antibiotics prescribed which will require a visit to see a physician. Do it soon before the infection spreads into your body and cause serious trouble.

i have had swollen glands in my neck and pelvic area since march and im not sure if its a cause for concern. the lymph nodes arent very big.

Watch and wait: If you do not have any symptoms you may watch and wait. You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. 
Get HPV vaccine

i have had a horrendous red, inflamed, sore throat for 3 weeks now! still have my tonsils which are flared up and keep getting that ugly white ball thing at the back near my tonsils. lymph nodes are big and sore too: help plz plz its so sore!

Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (as in this case). Throat lozenges and Tylenol or Motrin can temporarily lessen pain.
