i have an itchy red swollen area under the chin, on the jawline and on my neck. the doctor gave prednisone. won't this make it hard for me to heal? if this is yeast, couldprednisone be dangerous?

Redness: Prednisone can make yeast infection worse sometimes but not dangerous. He might be thinking allergic reaction. You could try the Prednisone and see whethere the redness  is getting better. Follow up with  your doctor.

No: The thyroid sits much lower in the neck just above the breast bone.  Swelling under the chin could be a lymph node or swollen salivary gland so see your doctor for eval.

Salivary gland: Sounds like salivary gland with obstructed duct. See ENT doc for assessment/treatment.

Not usually: Lymph node's in the neck are associated with various parts of the mouth. The tonsils drain into the lymph nodes in the upper part of the neck on the sides not under the chin. Most often the lymph nodes under the chin enlarge because infections around the front of the mouth both inside and outside or the front teeth.

Lump under chin: First, unless you have been diagnosed with one previously, a thyroglossal duct cyst is rare and something that has likely been searched out on the internet. Second a pimple, carbuncle, or furuncle can cause tender lumps under the chin which may be either a swollen lymph node or an actual cellulitis or abscess of the anterior neck space.  See your doctor.

Yes: Leg swelling, definitely from fluid accumulation; abdominal swelling - from fat accumulation or a GI perforation.

That depends...: Why were you prescribed prednisone? Not knowing anything about the illness for which the medicine was prescribed, or what the medical history of the person taking it is, no doctor could give you any kind of meaningful statement here. Prednisone is a very widely used drug for a number of medical conditions, most of them involving inflammation, but not all. Try asking again with more background.

: Well you might get better! Not a bad side effect. ;-).  This short term burst of steroids should not likely cause and side effects unless you are allergic to it.  Go to Drugs.com and review possible side effects. And then discuss with Dr and decide if possible side effects are more bothersome in you than your red swollen eyes. Discuss.

Good question : Prednisone prevents active inflammation but higher doses can lead to passive salt and water retention via a different mechanism of action.

on june 3 i was a stung by something on my middle finger. it was red and swelling.  since then ive been on two rounds of prednisone. recheck last wk.  dr. said give it more time. can you have joint stiffness weeks later? what type bite causes it?

: Overwhelming stings do not penetrate to a joint. They can caused severe swelling and pain and the duration and severity depends what bit you. Your docs advice is good. Hope you do well
