Poison Ivy: Everywhere in the us and southern canada except the far west, deserts and at high altitude. In the west they have poison oak, which is very similar. Both love roadsides and edges of fields. And certainly into southern canada and northern mexico as well.

Contact dermatitis: Contact dermatitis from poison ivy, oak or sumac usually requires steroids, either topical steroid cream or oral steroids if more severe or widespread. Often prescription strength medication is needed so call your doctor.

You can start with 1% Hydrocortisone from the drug store, but a more potent prescription cream will probably be necessary. In severe cases, oral Prednisone my be required.

If you discover the itchy red rash instead, you will need to treat the symptoms. Anti-tich measures : baking soda, diphendyramine, and avoid overheating. Hydrocoritsone cream and domeboro soaks help too. See your doctor if severe.
