i have a wound culture come back with pneumonia growth?  how is the possible?

Pneumococcus: There is a bacteria called streptococcus pneumoniae.  That may be what was isolated from the wound culture, although that would be somewhat unusual.  What the culture growth was describing was not a disease process but the name of the organism.

Mnay things: This requires medical evaluation by a doctor, several possibilities. A list would include: a error in diagnosis, for example congestive heart failure, & inflammatory diseases of the lungs can mimic recurrent pneumonia. ("boop"  for example) exacerbation of COPD can also be confused with pneumonia. Repeat pneumonia can be caused by a tumor obstructing the airway, and immune system problems.

i inhaled a small fragment of a crisp. i couged but no very much and i didn't feel it come back  up. might it be in my lungs and might i get pneumonia?

Mgt: It is possible to have an nice tigon following aspiration into the lungs. Typically though if you are healthy, the lung can remove food particles effectively. If you experience respiratory problems, fever or chills please see the ED.

PNEUMONIA: Your doctor has given this antibiotic for 5 days, s/he will evaluate you after 48 hours. As long as your wheezing and cough is not getting worse, you can wait another day. Some cough is good so that you clear your lung. Make sure you follow the instructions your doctor has given, drink a lot of fluid. It may take a week or longer to be 100% cured if the antibiotic choice is the correct one.

started with covid symptoms on christmas, tested positive 2 days later. i havent had a fever in 5 days. im still worried that it will come back and be pneumonia or blood clots day 10. i feel fine but have severe anxiety. please help?

: You are done with this episode of Covid. In 6-8 weeks, get Covid vaccination or booster.  While you are at it get a Flu shot also.

: There are some basics we have seen. Peak symptoms are often present by day 8 but can come sooner or later. Taste/smell when lost may return quickly or take months. Worrying will not change how this evolves but getting needed rest an proper nutrition supports a good outcome.

Post viral : After the viral infection has resolved, the airway may be sensitized and symptoms of prolonged cough, wheezing and chest tightness may occur. If the cough lingers more than 2 to 3 weeks or there is sudden fever, please see your PCP. Secondary pneumonia may occur and there can be consecutive infections of the respiratory tract.

Yes: It is possible to have another pulmonary infection or recurrence of the same infection, if the antibiotic did not fully cover the underlying illness. Please monitor for fever, wheezing, chest tightness and see your physician. If there is mucus production, they can send the sample for testing.
