Pneumococcus: There is a bacteria called streptococcus pneumoniae. That may be what was isolated from the wound culture, although that would be somewhat unusual. What the culture growth was describing was not a disease process but the name of the organism.

You probably mean...: Klebsiella pneumonaie, a bacillus that can cause a variety of infections.
