can omeprazole cure a uti?

UTI: Omeprazole cannot cure a uti.  It is a proton pump inhibitor and decreases the acid that is produced in the stomach so it decreases the chance of an ulcer or gastritis.  A UTI will involve bacteria infecting the bladder/urine and although it can resolve on its own, often requires antibiotics.

i just pooped and saw light brown mixed with black color stool. i am taking omeprazole, uti cranberry pills and i took 15ml of pepto bismol last night before i went to bed. could this be something for me to be concerned?

: PeptioBismol is typically excreted and turns the stool black, likely involved in what you have noticed. As soon as you stop taking it you should see your stool return to its previous color. If that is not the case letting your doc know would be best.

Reflux : Is usually causes by a weak valve at the end of the esophagus as it enters the stomach so the stomach acid goes backwards up the esophagus and causes pain. The medicine reduces the acidity only but does not fix the valve

Yes : An antibiotic regime has been effective in treating ulcers but not generalized reflux.

It is probably: safe but the question is whether it will be effective. If your symptoms are not relieved by the medication then it probably is not effective for you.

I hope you have : Enlisted the help of a gastroenterologist.....   If the ppi (omeprazole) is being taken properly and has no or minimal effect you definitely need more evaluation.  If you are in a "community" hospital setting... Consider an academic center......   The are sometimes better at building a larger differential (i.e.Possibility) list.   First, discuss this with your doctors.

if i put one table spoon of baking soda in 8 oz glass of water after every meal, will this cure my acid reflux? and is it safer than omeprazole for acid reflux?

No.: And not safer.  Too much sodium for starts.  I would try an h2 blocker, before moving to a ppi like omeprazole.  Long term use can causes many problems. 150-300mg of generic Zantac (ranitidine) may be all you need!

will a peptic stomach ulcer caused by h.pylori heal with 40mg per day of omeprazole?

i know it wont cure the h.pylori, but will the stomach ulcer go?

Probably not: H pylori causes ulcers. If not eradicated, it will likely cause more or worsening ulcers. These ulcers can sometimes bleed severely. It's important to not only provide acid suppression (omeprazole) but to also treat the h pylori infection.

tender pain above belly button. seems like ultrasound came back to normal and so did blood work. omeprazole seems to help. and the pain comes back without it. will a certain amount of time using omeprazole completely cure my issue ?

Maybe/not: The pain you experience may reflect behaviors or diet issues that make this return. This reflects stomach acid back washing into your swallow tube. Caffeine/nicotine &amp; chocolate have properties that weaken the "door" to the stomach (aggravate). Laying down after a meal or snack will aggravate the process. Behavior &amp; diet change may allow this to disappear.

what is the best method to cure stomach ulcer? i was advised by a senior nurse to take iv nexium but my mum bought a bunch of omeprazole from the pharmacy for me. and she thinks i'll be fine after taking them all. how do i treat it completely please?

: How do you know that you have a stomach ulcer? It would be prudent to see a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.
