Reevaluation: No it is notnormal. The RSV virus may have lowered his resistence and consequently he develop other symptoms. Presumably, he has had green mucus more than ten days, in which case he should again be seen by the doctor to rule out a bacteril infection such as pnumonia. At the same time you might want to have his gamma globulins checked to make sure he isnt deficient.

No: Babies do not develop typical "strep throat, " however, they develop a naso-pharyngitis characterized by fever and purulent nasal discharge.

No: You are talking about 2 completely different diseases. Rsv (respiratory syncytial virus) is a respiratory virus which can cause bronchiolitis in babies. Strep throat is caused by a bacteria, group a strep. An antibiotic can treat a bacterial, but not a viral infection. However, both are contagious, so good hygiene is important to minimize spread.

Depends on weight: If a throat culture was performed and the baby has strep, Amoxicillin can treat it. The dosage would be calculated based on the baby's weight.

Yes: It's rare under age 2 to get strep, but is possible.  I've seen a positive strep test in as young as a 4 month old.

RSV immunity: Definitely! there are many strains of RSV and developing immunity to one will not necessarily protect against others. Even receiving synagis (palivizumab) which is pooled antibodies against RSV can't completely eliminate the risk of rsv. Immunity they do have also tends to wane over several months.
The good news is that most RSV infections do not result in hospitalization and act like a simple cold.

See below: Most likely an adult who had not already had that strain of RSV (which is less likely), would have cold symptoms or flu like symptoms.  Most often, only infants and small children have respiratory difficulty but pneumonias are not impossible - but that would be secondary to the other symptoms.

RSV infection: None of these are useful and in fact can be harmful for a young infant. Whatever you do or not, cough from RSV infection in an infant lasts several weeks. You can use saline nasal sprays with bulb suction for blocked noses.
