can i still get a thigh lift if i have high blood pressure? my high blood pressure is controlled with medication (i take lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) now). am i still a good candidate for a thigh lift?

You : You should be able to have a thigh lift if your blood pressure is well-controlled on your blood pressure medication.  Patients who have uncontrolled high blood pressure may even run higher right after surgery and the risks of bleeding and having to go back to the or to evacuate a hematoma or blood collection are greater.  Therefore, you will want to make sure that your lood pressure is well-controlled in advance of your surgery.  I would suggest getting your regular physician to check into that, and perhaps monitor your blood pressure on a few occasions to account for any variability.

May be .: Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) relatively selective b1 antagonist hence , has less effect on the bronchus . We are talking here in relativity .I suggest to talk to your doc about it . Good luck.

metoprolol tartrate. i'm taking 50mg in am and 50 mg at night. night does not bother me. but after taking in the am, i get head pressure, complete body out of balance, dizzy and just terrible feeling. any suggestions as to what i should do?

: I think it's important that you take your metoprolol on schedule to keep your BP under control.  Dayquil contains an ingredient ( phenylephrine) that raises BP. Omitting metoprolol but taking dayquil will most likely raise your BP. Your pharmacist can validate this advice for you.

: The mean elimination half-life of metoprolol is 3 to 4 hours; in poor CYP2D6 metabolizers the half-life may be 7 to 9 hours. It takes 4 half lives to be out of your system. Therefore, it a poor metabolizer would be rid of the drug in 28 to 36 hours. Approximately 95% of the dose is excreted in the urine.

Atenolol: Try atenolol - 12.5 to 100 mg (25 to 50 mg are the most usual doses). Atenolol is a beta 1 specific beta blocker that has the least ability to cross the blood brain barrier of all available beta blockers. It has no intrinsic sympathomimetic activity. It is intrinsically long acting and generally is given as a once a day dose. It's also dirt cheap!
