i was prescribed clindamycin for my toothache but it's not working i went to a dentist today they prescribed me amoxicillin if i took the clindamycin at 4 pm can i switch to amoxicillin ?

Antibiotics: Yes it's OK to switch but best to speak to dentist who is treating you. Understand that antibiotics alone will not resolve problem and therefore no antibiotic and any dose may alone get you out of pain. Cause of dental problem needs to also be addressed/treated!

i was prescribed cleocin (clindamycin phosphate) for my toothache but my x-ray didn't show i had an abscess . do i still have to take it?

Accepted Answer

Infection can exist: In the absence of an overt abscess.  You probably need the antimicrobial.  Are you penicillin allergic? Is not, there are probably better drugs to use.

Seek alternate DDS: Call a different dentist if your dentist is unable to see you, that way you will be taken out of pain. In addition, most dentists offer emergency appointments.

i was prescribed clindamycin (mip600 capsule) before root canal treatment. with massive toothache can i combine with painkillers and alcohol ?

Bad Idea: Ok to take the painkillers - take with at least 700ml water or other non-alcoholic beverage. Skip the alcohol or you might vomit and lose the effect of the meds. Be wise and give it a day or 2 before the alcohol. The root canal is the only thing which is going to solve the problem. Follow the post-op instructions. Best of luck.

See oral surgeon: U may have an abcess. If so, it needs to be drained. Strongly recommend you see a Oral MaxilloFacial Surgeon. I would continue the Clindamycin for now also.

Your toothache: If you are still in pain this morning and you could not sleep last night, call your dentist. They may need to see you or want to change your meds.

More importantly is how the Clindamycin is used, how much, for how long, and for what reason. In pediatrics, Clindamycin is usually prescribed as a gel for teen acne.

Infectious Disease..: 30 y/o asks Can  Clindamycin treat syphilis? Clindamycin is Not  the 1st line medication for syphilis.  As for people with Penicillin allergy there are other options. If one already has a diagnosis of syphilis, they are encouraged to work closely with their PCP or Infectious Disease Consults for best result.

NOT generally: more useful for gram positive infections, eg SKIN (Staph and Methicillin resistant  Staph), stretococcus etc etc HOWEVER is this was picked by your TREATING Physician(s) it may be due to laboratory findings (cultures etc)
