Acute is < 2 weeks.: The term "acute bronchitis" is a description of a problem, not a diagnosis. It could be viral, or a complication of smoking, or a mycoplasma infection, or asthma. It may take more than one visit to tell if your cough lasts more than two weeks. And young adults are susceptible to pertussis (whooping cough), which can last 3 months. Did you get your pertussis vaccine?

Sinus infection: Sinus infections can sometimes be challenging to get better. Here are some suggestions. Take the prescribed medicines you outlined. If you are still having symptoms after completing the antibiotics, contact your doctor as you may need additional medicine. Other things you can do including saline rinses, humidifier, nasal decongestants, nasal steroids among others. Saline rinses are effective.

Q: is it safe to take hydromet for cough if i have lung disease?

Depends: It depends on what type of lung disease you have. Hydromet has Atropine in it which dries secretions, making them harder to expell.

Q: im taking a codene cough syrup can i take a 10 milligram melatonin with it?

Be careful: Both Codeine and melatonin have sedative effects, and the two together may cause significant sedation. If you are taking other meds, there may be further interactions. If you have respiratory problems, the combo may exacerbate those problems. You may also feel groggy in the morning; so be careful with machinery or driving. I'd advise using one or the other, not both.

Perhaps: The cough suppressant in Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm is dextromethorfan. It is ralatively mild cough suppressant and ofter combined with an anti-histamine. I'm not sure what other cough medicine you want to use. Codeine often works better and is available by prescription. If the cough is persistant you probably should see your physician.

Q: is it okay to take xanax (alprazolam) for anxiety along with taking cough syrup for a cold?

Can be OK: Some cough suppressant s use dextromethoraphan. Others don't. If taking xanax (alprazolam) is prescribed, using cough syrups with dextrom may make you significantly more sleepy. Consider use of the alternatives to minimize this.

Sometimes: Expiration dates are typically meant to be used as a guideline for how long the ingredients are considered "shelf-stable." you can often safely use things that have expired for about 6 months past their date but if you are unsure you should ask your physician or your pharmacist.

Possible etiologies for your cough include acute bronchitis, bronchospasm from any cause, gerd, post-nasal drip or a combination of factors. See your doctor so your cough can be diagnosed and treated. If you smoke, you need to quit asap!

Hydromet &amp; Codeine: Hello. Hydromet cough syrup contains hydrocodone. You should not mix that with codeine pills since that is mixing two different opioids (narcotics).  It is possible that mixing the two could make you sick. 5mg of hydrocodone is in hydromet. It's possible that the hydrocodone in hydromet can be" temporarily " effective for treating whatever pain condition codeine is being used to treat.
