A member asked:

How long does a cough from acute bronchitis last? i have already seen my doctor and been given hydromet syrup to control the cough.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acute is < 2 weeks.: The term "acute bronchitis" is a description of a problem, not a diagnosis. It could be viral, or a complication of smoking, or a mycoplasma infection, or asthma. It may take more than one visit to tell if your cough lasts more than two weeks. And young adults are susceptible to pertussis (whooping cough), which can last 3 months. Did you get your pertussis vaccine?
