Cervicitis: I have used Doxycycline to treat cervicitis.  However vaginitis is often either bacterial vaginosis, which is usually treated with Flagyl or metrogel, and isn't sensitive to doxy.  Or another type of bacterial infection which may or may not be sensitive to doxycycline.

Infection : Vaginitis is usually a benign nuisance infection.  Rarely will vaginitis cause a life threatening infection.

Don't take doxy: This is probably a virus, but could be strep throat. In any case, you should not take left over doxycycline for this purpose. If it's a virus, no antibiotic will help; and doxy is not the best antibiotic for strep infections. Contact your doctor and let her decide whether or what antibiotic to prescribe. Good luck!

: Doxycycline is relatively safe however there is danger to inappropriate use because of changes in the bacteria in the gut and dangers of subsequent super infections. If you are self prescribing it may not be a good idea to just do that. Mild acne could be taken care off most of the time with topicals like benzoic, azelaic or salicylic acid gel depending on what works best for you.

Doxycycline : It is a much longer period than usually used. I would see what happens after 28 days. If you are completely clear see your doctor and suggest that more of the antibiotics may not be required. Good Luck

Accepted Answer

: There is no need. It is not possible your continuing symptoms are caused by syphilis this long after penicillin. Assuming you have not been reexposed to syphilis, something else is the cause of your symptoms. Do not take the doxycycline without first discussing with the doctor or clinic where your syphilis was greated. Good luck.

Many alternatives : There are many alternatives - depending if acute or chronic. Fosfomycin, TMP/SMX among others. Check with an Infectious Diseases doctor or a Urologist

Either, not both.: Either option is fine, however only Azithromycin is safe during pregnancy. Both antibiotics are not needed, when either works fine. Make sure your sexual partner is also treated and follow your gynecologist's advice. This could decrease your fertility..

Not by itself: I see that you also have thrush and if you do, perhaps this isn't the best time to start on doxycycline. I trust you have been using topical benzoyl peroxide and this is the basis of your treatment. Usually you see good results in a few weeks with an effective anti-acne combination. Spironolactone, the birth control pill, or topical clindamycin are other possibilities.

i've taken doxycycline to treat my dermatitis and finished the course however i have also cellulitis.i can take ciprofloxacin to treat the cellulitis?

Cellulitis: Cipro would be a bit of over kill for cellulitis unless you were a diabetic, etc. Likely Keflex will help.
