Doxycycline is relatively safe however there is danger to inappropriate use because of changes in the bacteria in the gut and dangers of subsequent super infections. If you are self prescribing it may not be a good idea to just do that. Mild acne could be taken care off most of the time with topicals like benzoic, azelaic or salicylic acid gel depending on what works best for you.
