Local issues: Biggest side effect is nasal inflammation and bleeding. To minimize this, when you put the sprayer in your nose angle the tip to the outside corner of your eye. This will direct the spray away from your septum and decrease irritation.

do i need to do anything in particular before taking my flonase?

Not really but...: Flonase (fluticasone) is a topical corticosteroid sprayed in the nose to reduce inflammation from allergies. The medicine is absorbed readily into tissues and hair-like projections (called cilia) on cells help spread the medicine towards the back (so no need to "snort" after spraying). Sometimes if there is too much drainage or mucus, it may help to blow your nose or use saline prior to spraying.

i have been taking flonase for 7 days can i just stop taking it or do i have to do it gradually? what will happen if i just stop abruptly?

Yes..: Yes, you can just stop taking it but you may experience some rebound runny nose. Since  not much of this corticosteroid is absorbed systemically, there aren't many concerns about tapering the dose so it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Depends: In general, these medications are safe to take over a long period of time, and actually work together to treat symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis. However, if you have been on these medicines for a while, i would recommend seeing an allergist for more definitive treatment options.

For a few weeks.: You will likely be ok if you are using the higher dose for just a few weeks.  For chronic use, I am not sure if there may be some systemic effect even though at the dose described it is likely ok.

Yes: All medications have an expiration date. Typically 12 months but check to make sure. An albuterol inhaler does have a two year expiration date and other medications might vary. Check the bottle.

Not recommended: It's probably safe to use, depending on how old it is--however, if the medication is expired, i would recommend getting a new nose spray.

Probably: If may lose some potency when used way beyond the expiration date.

Not really: If  you  use  only  as  prescribed  ,  you  are safe.  I  tell  my  pts  give a  break  on  the  weekends  or  donot  use  on  2  nights  a  week.  Spray  on  nasl  wall  only  i.E  r side  with  l  hand  and  vice  versa.

is there a cheap version of flonase?

Fluticasone nasal: The generic version of Flonase is available at fluticasone proprionate.  In spring 2015, this should be available over the counter.  It is still a good idea to check with your doctor before using OTC medications.
