Yes: It may hurt a but with movement, but exercise is fine.  You may want to take something like Ibuprofen 1 hour prior to working out.

Types  Ear infection: 3 types of ear infections: outer, middle &inner.  Inner ear infection involves the balance system and people get very dizzy.   Outer ear infection involves the outer ear and ear canal.  It can be very painful.  There is usually swelling and drainage of the ear.  Middle ear involves the ear drum and middle ear space.  There is pain, muffled hearing etc.  For pain: advil, (ibuprofen) or tylenol+warm compress.

ive been having vertigo mainly at night & in the morning. will this resolve in its own? could i have an inner ear infection. i am 58, in good shape and healthy otherwise?

: Unlikely to resolve on own.  See an otolaryngologist, and get this tested.  Suspect you are describing inner ear issues, but cannot exclude vascular problems in the posterior vertebral-basilar system, so would be helpful to have some imaging of blood vessels also.

Hard to say: Definitions matter to us, and an inner ear infection involves the ear nerve, is generally viral and has no treatment. A middle ear infection (the common type) does not respond to drops unless you have a hole or tube in your ear drum. Outer canal infections (swimmers ear) can sometimes respond to drops unless there is too much debris in the way.The date on the drug matters less than what you have.

Could be, but ...: Your symptoms do suggest inner ear as a likely generator of your symptoms, but many different causes exist, ranging from benign crystals in the inner ear to migraines to infections, with strokes or tumors being very rare but would be considered and checked out by your dr. You should start by seeing your doctor who will ask additional questions and order tests if needed to figure it out.

Clarify: Inner ear infections are rare and would involve the hearing and balance part of the ear with resultant deafness and severe vertigo.  Rarely middle ear infection which is usually painful can spread to inner ear. Otitis media may not have pain and only manifest with fluid behind drum.This fluid usually clears but if there is still hearing loss after 1-2 months then see ENT especially if only 1 ear.

Yes: Most likely because the ear hurts you are holding your neck in a funny position to decrease pain or maximize hearing.  Massage can help as can craniosacral therapy, chinese medicine....And Motrin etc.

Sure: Certain low grade infections, including viruses the body may be trying to fight off, may produce mild symptoms that last for several days.
