Head above stomach : In most cases keeping the head higher than the stomach will assist in reflux. Reclining is fine, in fact, I recommend my patients use a pillow wedge at night to prevent overnight positional reflux with supine position, or lift the back legs of the bed with a brick to provide gentle slope. The question of how much to recline is 30 to 45  degrees.  Hope that helps

Maybe: As a general rule, greasy and spicy foods, as well as tomato sauce can make gerd symptoms worse. But there is no study to confirm that. Best to use common sense. Try it. I have a patient that can eat any pizza, except pizza hut. It did take him a while to sort that out.

Care about GERD: That's why there's acid blockers! but if not controlled exposure of stomach contents to your esophagus can lead to progressive erosions, ulcers, strictures (that get narrower as the scar tissue involved contracts) that trap food, barrett's esophagus (intestinalized tissue), & ultimately esophageal adenocarcinoma. Also may see laryngitis, airway irritability, asthma, chronic sinusitis, ear clicking.

Tough: This is a very common problem without a great answer. Foods such as coffee, tea, peppermint, onions, garlic and carbonated beverages can worsen it. I would not eat anything 3 hours before you go to bed, keep the head of your bed up, and you may want to use sulcralfate, which is not absorbed and is totally safe.

DGL is used to: help with acid reflux and is safe.  If you take licorice that is not DGL, over time it can raise your blood pressure.  Please consult w/your doc.  Peace and good health.  Check w/your doctor about how much would be your optimal weight.  He/she may suggest a food plan.  Include lots of protein and GOOD fats such as coconut oil and olive oil if doc says ok. : You could, but it may also make matters worse. If you are overweight, it is imperative that you lose weight to control GERD.  A burger is not the best thing to eat if you need to lose weight.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
