Not normal: There is  no " normal " growth of ovarian  cysts .  If   they  continue  to grow  or stay consistently   large  they  may undergo torsion or twisting.  They  may rupture  or  put pressure on other  organs.   If  they  are  growing  they should be evaluated  and   removed.

I think you should: Ask these questions of your treating doctor.  You might have another cause of pain, such as endometriosis.  Torsion can happen at any time, but usually with larger cysts.  Second opinions could be useful if your present doctor will not give you answers to your questions.  But please remember that doctors are not fortune tellers and cannot predict what will happen in the future, just probability.

Most stay unchanged: How large is your ovarian cyst? Most resolve after 13th week , but if you still have it at 20 weeks it should be checked regularly for growth. Most ovarian cysts do not change size in pregnancy and do not require any treatment. If you develop symptoms of pain due to the cyst or if the cyst significantly grows then you might need surgery to remove it. Most surgery is done prior to 20 weeks.

Spontaneous resolve: Most ovarian cysts at your age (21 years old) are functional ovarian cysts and will resolve spontaneously.  BCP will not make a cyst go away that is already present, but will prevent most functional ovarian cysts from occurring. These cysts usually resolve over 4-6 weeks.

Depends: Ovarian cysts are fluid filled sacs close to the ovaries.  Some contain watery fluid while others can contain blood/debris.  Most small cysts disappear within a short period of time; however, the larger the cyst, the more likely it is to persist and potentially cause problems.  You should be evaluated by your doctor, who can perform an ultrasound to better counsel you based on its appearance.

: Pain and heavier blood flow may not be from a ruptured ovarian cyst, and can represent a pregnancy outside the uterus (ectopic).  See your GYN physician for an exam and serum HCG to be safe.

No and Yes: Pregnancy will cause an ovarian cyst to remain, if it is the corpus luteal cyst of pregnancy.  That cyst could enlarge to the size of a softball and remain until about 15 weeks gestation.  It is normal for a woman who is ovulating to have multiple ovarian cysts and intercourse is not contra-indicated.

i have ovarian cysts and went to a doctor who advised that the cyst was a small one and would disappear. this is the second time i have cysts the last time i had an operation. 2 months later im still in pain and i have been on prevention pills ?

Ovarian cyst ?'s: Ovarian cysts are common in women who are not on oral bcp's .  Most are benign and will resolve spontaneously.  A biopsy may be indicated if there is internal structure in the cyst seen by ultrasound exam.  Endometriosis can also cause both pain and ovarian cyst formation, so consult your gyn physician if your symptoms are persistent.
