Adjunct only: This is a traditional system of healing that's interesting but can't be expected to restore lost kidneys any more than it would enable you to grow new teeth. Often the most helpful feature is the relationship with the practitioner. Don't spend too much money.

Adjunct only: If you truly have renal disease, evidenced by a seriously and consistently elevated BUN and creatinine, then your focus needs to be on scientific, modern, evidence-based treatment that will keep you off dialysis / transplant service. You're welcome to use the ancient plant-based medicines as adjuncts but keep your nephrologist informed.

Mitral valve: The test results here do not necessarily lead to any particular conclusion; additional information would be needed to give you advice. Think about a consultation with a cardiologist here on HealthTap or in the office. The ASO is a test indicating a prior Strep infection.  While late complications from Strep infections can affect the heart (rheumatic disease), it does not sound like you have that.

Something else: Whatever it is , your symptoms are not caused by a strep infection. Suggest you get a comprehensive by an internist since you may have an infection other than strep (the ASO titer).

Uncertain: Because hypertension is such a complex problem, there is no doubt that there are published anecdotes of those "cured" by many alternative medicine approaches.  Each individual has to find what form of medicine they believe in, and if alternative medicine seem right for you, then try it.  It is critial though to be monitored and make sure your BP is being controlled if you try this.

Statistics: Titer defined as positive is a statistical value.  To reduce false negatives, a certain percentage of false positives will be found.  Additionally, the aso witnesses past exposure, not necessarily infection.

do you continue having high aso levels from having scarlet fever or will they go back down to normal?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: Aso (antistreptolysin o) is an antibody response to the infection. It is common after strep. Many times the level does not return to negative or "normal" but they will decrease to a normal range. It is helpful to have a measurable antibody response. It indicates the immune system is working well. We want them in a range that indicates  healthy response and not an overactive response.

feel very ill for months, sweats, wt loss, off & on low fever, malaise. high aso >400. cbc norm. have mvp. could i have endocarditis?

Endocarditis: The symptoms you describe, fever weight loss and malaise, are seen with subacute bacterial endocarditis (SBE), an infection of a heart valve.  They are also seen with a variety of other conditions, though, so you need to see a physician right away to sort this out.  Blood cultures are usually but not always positive with SBE.

i have asymptomatic elevated aso titers (1600-2000) as well as anti-dnase b. i got these labs done as my 10 yo daughter was diagnosed with pandas (initially to see if i was a strep carrier).  i took different antibiotics, but levels remain high.

Not easy to answer: We do see people with elevator anybody’s without any medical problem. My concern here is who had strep first. This will suggest you’ve had a previous trip exposure. But I don’t know if you got it from her or she got it from you or 
you both got it from somebody else.

Another thing to consider is the elevated levels sometimessometimes are seen in people even without culturing strep

both feet swelling (mildly) (only at night), i am having alot of tachycardia episodes. can it be related to high aso levels in blood.

?: Some feet swelling at night is expected if you sit or stand a lot during the day, tachycardia is also expected with activity, anxiety, etc..if not you may want to see your doctor for assessment, both aren't related to ASO titer in blood, rheumatic heart diseases aren't diagnosed this way, if in doubt see your doctor/cardiologist, best wishes
