Possible...: Most medications are processed in the liver and thus may cause elevation of your enzymes, but antihistamine/pseudoephedrine are relatively safe if used in appropriate dosage and duration. Since you are taking statin, you need regular monitoring. Inform your doc of all meds you are taking, script or otc...

Structural changes: A scan will most of the times provide information about structural changes, only few will investigate function, such as a HIDA scan, for gallbladder function.

Accepted Answer

Yes: This is fairly common. They might also have been raised by the medications a person takes for the virus.  If checking baseline liver function, it is best to wait until the patient has recovered fully from a recent viral illness.

my ferritin level is 250. i also have raised liver enzymes of 350 (normal 1 -50) and unexplained diabetes. any ideas of what could be going on?

Male or female?: Ferritin reference ranges are different for men and for women. If male, level is normal range. It's high for female. Non-specific test suggests "inflammation" but nothing more by itself. High liver enzymes can be fatty liver, especially for one w/diabetes.  There may also be other systemic disease. More testing and medical history necessary.

i would like to find out why after getting diagnosed with a wheat allergy and staying away from wheat strictly for 2 years my ige levels are still raised (268 ku/l). august last year ( 1.5years w/o wheat) i did and fx5 which came back negative?

Review of findings: A virtual consultation is available from HT and lab data may be reviewed in context of your history. The sp IgE level is high and indicates that you are sensitized to wheat. The avoidance of the allergen helps to avoid allergic reactions in the form of clinical symptoms, such as hives, vomiting and difficulty breathing. EPI PEN is recommended, and please have Benadryl available in case of a reac.

had a blood test to follow up on my liver enzymes. noticed my calcium level increased from 9.3 to 10.2. read that raised levels of albumin can increase calcium levels slightly, is that true? my protein level also increased from 6.7 to 8.1?

: Your Calcium level, although fluctuating,. it is still in the normal range. You are right that blood protein levels can alter the values.
I do not think there is anything wrong( with your test results), they are in the range of values which we use for a normal test result.
If concerned you can get the serum Calcium rechecked. Unless the value goes up above 10.50, I would not be worried.

Absolutely not: That is an extremely high alkaline phosphatase level and has nothing to do with growth spurts. This test needs repeating and if still that elevated requires a thorough evaluation asap. If all other liver enzymes are normal, the alk phos may be related to issues with bone such as paget's disease. Do not wait.

Liver heals: Many things can cause temporary elevations of liver enzymes in the blood, including alcohol, medications, hepatitis, circulatory problems, etc. Unless permanent damage has been done (usually over a long time, like with alcoholic liver damage) the liver can heal itself and resume normal function.

Ascertain cause: It depends on why your ALT is high. Common causes are use of alcohol, hepatitis, some medications, heart failure and some metabolic disorders. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely and discuss it with your doctor.

Depends: Raised liver enzymes may be attributable to a number of causes and drugs. Staying on this drug must be determined by you and your physician. The amount of "raise" over normal is key to making this determination. A small increase may not be a cause for alarm.
